Have any of you public schoolers ever managed to get a partial contract extension of a month or two? Or are they always all-or-nothing? |

SMOE won't do it, not even 6 month contracts, so they have teachers who work for a few months and quit early when they need to. |

Yes, this is a good point. I'd thought of this, but wondered what the possibilities were.
What is SMOE? |

How about EPIK? Anyone ever had contract that was less than 12-months? |

SMOE doesn't sound too bright. In fact, that sounds dumb as hell. Is there a good reason for why they don't extend for short terms? Is it based on an immigration rule or what?

I would assume it is based on them not wanting a teaching leaving mid semester. I have heard of it happening (extending a short time) but ending at the end of term (end of February) instead of end of August |

Like many Korean organizations, thinking outside the box or bending rules isn't easy, even if it benefits them to do so.
One girl working for SMOE wanted to extend her contract for 6 months. The school loved the idea, it was better having a good teacher for 18 months than losing a good teacher after 12 months. SMOE said no. The teacher just went back to her home country.
Other teachers do just quit whenever they want. They get their severance as long as they've been there at least a year. |
