MMMMM Surprised

I don't wanna offend any-one on this topic, so Iam just going to say very
little and ask for opinions.

We all know that Korean society is dominated by a hierachy ( spelled??) of the authority figure and eldery.I have read somewhere that non-assertivness causes depression. I do think that the ideas behind group conformity plays somewhat of a part in Korean's depression. Korea seems to a society of extremes. Depression is caused by negative though patterns of dependency.
This dependency develops into extremes, right( bipolar disorder)???? I see alot passive-aggressive Koreans. I know alot of Koreans are abused by authority figures. Are they're thoughts dependent to thier society and upbringing with the negative attribute to this childhood abuse??

Next, I am wondering what role the church plays in developing these negative though patterns with it's dominant-authority figure?? Churches
are every-where here.Submissive...is the game. It's the 3rd level of socialization, right? I have visted quite a few extreme lefist ( right word???) churches here and it seems every-one in that church has depression, extremties and dependencies on something.I was meet with much hostility and "labeling"( a form of major abuse) when I
showed assertivness to leaving the church.

Thoughts anyone???? Laughing

When an adult Korean male decides to commit suicide (plunging to his death seems to be most popular), he often takes the whole family with him.

(As if the wife and kids had anything to do with his loser status. Rolling Eyes)

What sort of labels did they put on you? Depressed? Extreme? Dependent?

Seriously, I'd take it easy with the pop psychology.

Those aren't types of labels, those are things are formed in thought patternsfrom the negative labels.

Its changing. Korean youth nowadays is possibly the most raucous, self-expressive, off the leash animals I have seen anywhere on the planet. At least when they get out of the hogwons.
They are gradually starting to not care what the elders tell them to do.

I think those people are just passive agressive co-culprits. By labeling you, they just enable your life script. And that sends you on a shame spiral. I would suggest a little book called Owning Your Okayness.

Well, I dunno man, lots of smart people have yet to pinpoint the cause. Sounds like a clever explanation, but not the real thing.

Hey!!!! I appreciate you guys posting on the forum!!!!!!!!!

You guys seem super brillent!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing

jajdude- I built it off the cognitive behavior theories in my Psychology 101 book. Research has found that some kinds of depression can be traced to erroneous patterns of attribution, or "negative attributional style". Negative styles of thinking can lead to depression. Simple really, when you think about it in perpective.
I simply observed the rest.

Thanks man. I will read it. Yes, you are right about the passive-aggressive culprits. Those people still have a level of control ( usually from reocuuring child-hood abuse) though. which goes back to the first paragraph.

Oh look, billybrobby being offended by someone voicing an opinion. Color me surprised.

Honestly, brah, he may not be making his point very well here, but it at least SEEMS genuine. You want someone to hate on, pick a worthy target like komerican or danielkim.

That's true but what does it have to do with the incidence of depression in Korea?

Hey!! Yeah, i didn't have a direct point, just that depression was irrelated to various institues and T. Merton's Labeling theory. I didn't put it in official writing form, just kind of threw some various ideas out b-c I was extremely curious and I wanted to learn more.
It seems to me the "Labeling" of my "ugliness" can be an unconsciousness attempt and indirect attemp to allevate my consciuoness to confession and even bad sin. Now, how does someone even know what it in your consciousness unles they are sitting in your id. ( ??????). lol
