|
|
I want to get some Lonely Planet books to some neighboring Asian countries. Is Kyobo bookstore the best? I looked at Amazon and Alibris. Alibris can ship to Korea but I am not sure that Amazon.com can. I am looking for some Lonely Planet Travel Guides or other travel guides and maybe a Korean cookbook.
If you have ordered from Alibris or Amazon how long did it take to get to you? Are there any other good online sites that you would recommend that sells books?
How about Coex Mall?
Thanks |

I recommend What The Book in Itaewon, a small shop but they have a good range of Lonely Planet guides. They also have a website with over a million books listed, whatthebook.co.kr , delivery times usually 10 working days.
COEX Mall has a large bookstore called Bandi and Lunis with a good English section comparable in size to the English section in Kyobo, Gangnam. |

Damn Whatthebook charges $26.99 for a Lonely Planet book. I will try to find a used bookstore or something cheaper. |

Don't spend too much time, as then you'll sink your price savings by time wasting.
Anyway, Whatthebook is a good place. Way cheaper than Amazon considering shipping, and way more selection than crap Korean bookstores. |

And Kyobo you will pay through the nose for, especially as WTB has second hand as well as new.
You will not find a bookshop anywhere in Korea that has the selection of books that WTB for the price they are in WTB. You will also not find any other book shop with the selection of second books as WTB for the price they are in WTB. You will also not find any other book shop in Korea witrh the kind of customer service, in English, as WTB. You will also not find any other book shop in Korea with selection of English magazines as WTB.
I don't buy books regularly, but have been in Korea long enough to know that the service provided by WTB is second to none here and I would like someone to try and prove me different. Whatever you may think about Chris still does not detract from the fact that WTB will probably have what you want or will have it delivered in 10 days for less than ANY OTHER SUPPLIER. |

antgonz, its not worth getting a new LP book, sure some parts are updated like currencies but most of the info will still be fairly consistent.
Check out the buy and sell section of local forums and even libraries. I have seen some Korean secondhand bookstores selling LP books for 5000 to 8000 won, cheap only because too many people think the new versions are going to be so much better.
I know someone who works for LP so I get them for free |

God I am glad I am not one of your students...
Coming to Korea and re-joining this board are two very, very different times in life. However, if you believe that people join here as soon as they arrive, then you must lead a very, very sad and lonely life.
Have a nice day, Mr. 'I joined in 2005 so I must know more than someone who first joined in 2001'.

I definitely second this suggestion. The store is on the strip near the army base and tiny, but has a good selection. I bought some Lonely Planet phrase books that I never used for 5000 and they were like double that at What the Book. If you can't find what you're looking for, try What the Book, Kyobo, or the one in COEX. |
