Foreigners used to be able to make reservations for trains on the English website english.barota.com/en/main. However, that site has not functioned for 11 months. I have made numerous calls to various agencies and to Korail about the situation with no reasonable explanation as to why they no longer provide this service. At the end of December, Korail added a function on to their site at: http://www.korail.com/en/ but all that allows foreigners to do is check train schedules (foreigners still can't make reservations and secure seats).
After a call this week to Korea Tourism Organization, I was told that they had not received even one complaint from a foreigner regarding this, and they said that in order for them to take action they need to hear from many foreigners.
If you're tired of standing on trains because you can't make reservations ahead of time, please send a polite email to Oh Yoo-Nah at [email protected] to let her know how much you would appreciate an English website that allows foreigners to make reservations online.
Thanks!
