|
|
I've been asked by KT to leave my current provider and switch over to their 100Mbit connection. They are offering to pay my early cancellation penalty from the other company (120K won for canceling a 3 year contract) if I sign up with them for 3 years. On top of this, they are proposing 17K won/month for a 100Mbit connection (I think in connection with my current KT telephone line). Seems quite cheap. I'm currently paying 25+tax.
I'm not particularly happy with my current provider, as they are severely hampering my upload speeds. However, I do regularly get 3-6MB/s torrent downloads on private trackers. Also, I'm not overly keen on starting another 3 year contract.
Anybody had experience with this? Any advice? |

Seems like a deal. No catches? Except 3 year contract.........which another company might offer to buy you out of later!!
I wasn't happy with my KT connection a few years ago. I love my Hanaro connection now. A constant 2 years so far without a single drop-out. Great speeds (8-9mbps on private trackers). |

I am looking for an invite to a tracker like Oink. I was given one by somebody here last year and had a 1.1 ratio, and was giving invites out. I have tons of very well ripped music.
Any chance?

See, now you're just making me jealous.
I think I peaked a 7MB/s a couple of times...never seen 8 or 9. I'm in Busan, though. We're kind of back woods over here |

I'm with LG Telecom and I've had torrents coming in at 10MB/s (using private trackers). Costs me 40k per month though. Seems quite expensive now. |

Just had Hanaro installed today. 35,000/month. As soon as the dude left, I headed over to scenehd and hit 9MB/s.
Ohhhh....I love it!!! |

I wonder if it is my linksys router that is stopping me from getting speeds like that from hanaro...
I get about 2.5MB/s download and 1.5MB/s upload though I've done 1.5MB/s upload with 2MB/s download at the same time...so I have to wonder.
I think tomorrow I'll just hook up my computer direct from the hanaro box and see. |

I've got a linksys wrt-54g and high speed downloads all the time. I'm also running 2 desktops and a laptop off of it. |

Well, I signed with them today. Got the whole setup with MegaTV, 100Mb, and telephone. The Megatv is free for 6 months.
The connection is MUCH better. Private tracker (just tried one): 7MB/s. My uploads are working again (about 200-400 KB/s on that same tracker). I think my old provider was really throttling me.
The MegaTV is pretty interesting. It's IPTV. I can watch all kinds of series like Lost, Desperate housewives, 24, and CSI (all with Korean subs) with my wife. I can choose with seasons and shows to watch at the click of a button. Some shows , like 24, you have to pay 300W/episode. Not bad! Lots of free and pay movies. You can pause any time and there is no waiting like I had thought. I like it. Still got to play with it more.
So far so good. At the end of the six months I will have to sign up for 3 years and can get a package deal (MegaTV, internet, phone). |

Ask them what happens if you don't get the 100Mbs speeds they advertise? Will they allow you to cancel your contract without penalties? Will they pay you to get re-connected to your old provider? My first provider was KT and they advertised 100Mbs and it turned out to be slower than the villa's free service. Horrible, horrible speeds. I signed with Hanaro and have been happy ever since (until I moved). |

The contract says 80Mb/s down and 74 Mb/s up. I think those are the minimums I can demand according to my contract.
We did a test and I was getting about that speed at the KT site.
BTW- This really low price is part of a Lotte Card endorsement combined with a group discount for my apartment complex...but we'll have to see how things work out.
The IPTV thing is really fun. Video on demand FTW! |

Is Hanaro really faster than KT Internet? How much faster on average and does it depend on where you live? Does everybodyagree Hanaro is the best High Speed internet for downloading? |

I think ESID (every situation is different) but I have had both KT Megapass and Hanaro and Hanaro was by far, way, way speedier than KT. But like others have said, location does seem to have an impact. |

There seem to be a lot of misconceptions here about downloading speeds.....
Whether you have KT, Hanaro, LG Xspeed, whatever, your download speeds will almost entirely depend on who you are downloading from. Not your ISP.
You can have a rock-solid, fiber-optic, 100mb connection with any of these companies and still get 2kb/s download speeds, if, big if, the location you are downloading from isn't uploading at a fast rate.
It all depends on the speed of the uploader/s. Paying for a 100mb connection will not get you download speeds of 100mb/s. You'll be doing great if you get 10mb/s. But that will only ever happen if you're getting the file from a really fast group of uploaders. |
