So I got my copy of Super Smash Brothers Brawl from the U.S. and, despite assurances from the guys at Trader we sold me my Wii that I could play it on their modded system, I can't. Evil or Very Mad I took it to them to see if they could figure out why it won't play and they don't know. They said it has a Wii Key in it, but I still can't play SSBB on it; not even the copied version they have.

Does anyone hav any suggestions, here? Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anyone else in Seoul who might be able to figure out why the game won't play? I'd really like to play this one. Sad

Not to be too much of a dick...but look how many words you typed. Now, I myself, didn't know the answer, but I can use google. Here's what I typed:

Quote:
super smash brother brawl won't play on modded wii

Here's the first result:

http://abuggedlife.com/2008/03/29/original-super-smash-brothers-brawl-on-modded-wii/

Quote:
If you own a modded Wii, you will not be able to play the original retail of Super Smash Brothers Brawl (SSBB). Ironic as it is, buying original copies of Mario Galaxy and SSBB and running these on a modded unit will bring a disk read failure. This is Nintendos way of combatting disk backups which is the main proponent for piracy, especially here in the Philippines.

Edit: Just got done reading some links. It appears that if you download and burn the game on a dual layer dvd it should work on a modded wii. So there is hope.

Thats great Nintendo. The retail game that is paid for won't play but the burned game downloaded on the internet will. Wouldn't that just encourage more piracy?

I guess they aren't pandering to the law-breaking community. Bastards.

If only you knew what you were talking about. The retail one wouldn't work on a Wii modded with the Wiikey as it could detect it. Those bastards at Nintendo trying to stop people using mod chips.

I think people would buy the Must Have titles, even if they had a modded console. Sure, it would be a small percentage of sales, but some sales from modders is better than NO sales from modders. Having the retail Super Smash Brothers not work on a modded Wii just reinforces the message that its pointless to buy the retail games if they won't work.

Is this going to apply to all new OEM Wii games?

Mario Kart (US version) is out today and I was going to order it from Play Asia, but maybe I won't bother if it's not going to work on my Wii Key'd console.

I have been playing the PAL (European) version for a while now. If you have the update given in SSBB you can play Mario Kart. All you have to do is download the PAL version.. use

1. region free - change to N.A region
2. brickblocker

and burn.

edit..

The N.A version was released on torrents about an hour ago.

Ironically, on a game torrent site I frequent a couple guys (who had wiikey chipped wii's) couldn't play the originals, but the downloaded version was fine..
