Ok, I'm getting a little upset. It's the old "left-hand, right-hand" thing where one doesn't know what the other is doing. I'll try to keep this brief, but as another thread suggested: "George is getting upset!"
My co-worker from Edmonton informed me a little while ago that he was able to simply fax an RCMP Detachment with the relevant ID's and a letter asking his sister to be his proxy to pick up his CRC. Within a few days, his sister had his CRC in hand and mailed it here to Korea. No fingerprints needed. Beautiful.
I asked a relative in Montreal to visit an RCMP Detachment in Mtl to ask about the procedure, only to be told "No. A CRC without fingerprints has to be requested in person by the applicant." No ifs ands or buts about it, apparently. My relative visited a local copshop, a main police station, an RCMP Detachment and all of them referred to a few companies to whom they've farmed out their CRC business. I've since learned that Immigration Korea doesn't accept CRC's from businesses.
I'm sending off my fingerprints by mail this week, after a visit to a Korean copshop, for my renewal in September, but I worry my CRC won't be back in time (RCMP says 4-6 months). I don't want to have to go back home to do it in person (expensive), so is there any other way to do it if you're from Quebec?
Any Quebecers in the same boat? Any info appreciated...

From the RCMP (Quebec) website:
Quote: |
How can I obtain a Canadian police certificate (record check by name and date of birth only, not fingerprint based)?
In the Montral area, please contact your local police service.
Outside the Montral area, you may go to the nearest RCMP office. Please phone before going to a detachment because an appointment may be required. You may also contact your local police service.
Outside Canada, you must submit fingerprints to conduct a certified criminal record check. You must be present in Canada in order to obtain a name-based check. |
My question is, why? Why, dammit, WHY?
Another gem:
Quote: |
The processing time is currently in excess of one hundred and twenty (120) days from receipt of an application. |
So, if someone decides/applies to get a job in less than 5 months from starting date - they're screwed? Awesome, guys, awesome. |

No.... i'm from Montreal, i did my criminal check back in February.
I went to a private agency, i looked it up on the internet. It cost 40$ and i had the results in 3 business days. no fingerprints needed. It was accepted by immigration (once notarized). |

Did you do it in person in Montreal, or did you do it from Korea? |

I actually have to get mine as well, and asked my parents to go ask what they would need from me so that my parents could pick it up and send it to me. The process was very easy. My parents explained the situation so the guy gave them some documents for me to sign and to send back. They didn't even ask about my fingerprints... Anyways, the place they went to is in Westmount. I can't remember exactly the address, but it's near Atwater station. |

^Hey - Great info - thanks - and exactly what I was hoping to hear. Sorry to inconvenience you further, but do you know what place this is near Atwater? Is it a local cop station, or an RCMP Detachment? My mom lives in Westmount, too, and I'm hoping she could do the same thing for me. That would be sweet!
Any extra info would be very, very appreciated! |

Hi
I remember there being RCMP in Westmount, it was near the old Montreal Forum and Dawson College. |

Hey, sorry for the late reply.
Was looking up the scanned documents my parents sent me. The address the previous poster put up, that's the one my parents went to.
Anyways, I have no idea how to post pictures however your mother should receive two documents were you are supposed to sign and send back. (Unless it's like Korea and the person who works decides differently lol) |

Hi
I just wanted to check that this is the right address...In your first post you said they went to a place near Atwater (identification canada??), but the address the previous poster put up was in Guy Favreau. Sorry to be a pest, but my dad is getting the run-around in Mtl trying to sort this out for me and I don't want to send him to the wrong place.
thanks |

I just rechecked the address. The reason why I said that address worked was because when I previously went in person (last year), I was given two addresses, one was on Rene-Levesque(Guy Favreau is the building name I think), and one was on St. Jacques, near Atwater. As it's a little too late for me to go and call up my parents, just give me time to call them up later on for the address.
Identification Canada sounds like the one I went to though, they do the National check that Korean immigration wants. It says on the document as well that it's the National check. Anyways, let me double check with my parents at a more "convenient time" for them.

I got the address and phone number. It's not St. Jacques(my bad), it's on St. Catherine St.
4060 St. Catherine W. Suite 525, Westmount
(514) 934-2244
Hope this helps |

Thank you! The one on Ste Catherine is indeed i.d. Canada. I went there before I left for Korea and they were very fast, but I didn't know if they could do the record check now that I'm abroad. I have put my dad in touch with them and I'm keeping my fingers crossed |
