|
|
Okay, so it's that time again. Time to buy a new tower.
I'm looking for a gaming rig that can run new games well. Crysis is a good benchmark, so something which would run Crysis well on high settings that is also cost effective.
I'm thinking about getting the GeForce 8800GTX / 320MB because it seems to be the most bang for my buck. I'd rather a small and fast hard drive (SATA) than a large and slow one.
I'm also looking for a Intel Quad Core and 2GB of RAM. I'm planning to run it on XP-Pro 32-bit (don't see the need of having 4GB of RAM in the next year).
Anyway, as for purchasing, I'm all ears if someone wants to sell me this rig as a lot of people seem to be selling on here. I'm also curious if I could find all of this in Yongsan and have it built, or find a pre-made tower resembling this.
I remember there was a guy here who runs a computer store. He sold me a game awhile back. I forgot your website, if you see this could you PM me?
I checked all the prices on danawa.com but I don't have a payment method so I can't purchase anything through it.
All in all I'm looking to spend between 500-700,000KRW, willing to go to 800,000KRW. No peripherals as I already have them.
Thanks. |

You do realize a GTX is going to cost 500 all by itself, right? There's no way you can build a decent system for 700 with a gtx in it. Perhaps you meant a GT?
The old GT, Q6600, random hard drive(s), 2 GB of RAM should put you about where you're thinking... |

I am about to build a new system as well, and I plan on buying the Core2Duo E8400. I beleive it has better performance for today's games and applications. Not many games used the quad core yet. Now, if HD video plays back better with the Quad Core, I may change my mind. But the E8400 just came down to 190,000 on Danawa.
I also plan on getting the Geforce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition, priced around 225,000. |

To get a consistent 40fps or more in Crysis, on high-settings, never mind very high which is for Vista only, you're going to need to spend around 400,000 on GPU alone.
Then 240,000 for a Q6600. That's 640,000 before you get into motherboard, RAM and PSU. I wouldn't spend less than 100,000 on each of those three things. I forgot HDD. Add another 110,000.
You might, just might, be able to put together a Crysis-capable machine for 900,000.
I'd say make your budget a million and put together a machine you could get excited about.

You can do a good q6600 (like you described) rig for about 1.1 but if you're gonna go w/ 400,000 gpu then you're talking about 1.3 easily.
BTW, the Q6600 is 211,000 now.

Sorry, I meant the GTS, not the GTX. I think the GTS was between 1-300,000Won. |

OK, I'll give it a shot and see what I can come up with for ya...
MB - ASUS P5N-D: 164,000
CPU - C2D E8400: 190,000
VGA - XFX 8800GS Alpha Dog: 144,000
RAM - Corsair XM2 DDR2 PC2-6400: 63,000
HDD - Seagate 500GB (7200.11/32M): 93,000
ODD - Samsung DVD-Multi: 30,000
Power - Zalman ZM-600 HP: 108,000
Case - Generic: 30,000
TOTAL: 822,000
For the VGA, if you want nVidia, go with XFX b/c they have the best warranty out there (at least available in Korea that I can find). You could go with a local company, but I wouldn't. Also, because of this I went with an nVidia chipset on the MB so you could SLI later if you want. If you don't think you'll ever SLI, you could get a P35 chipset MB like the ASUS P5KE for about 130,000.
Why I picked the GS...a lot of people will say stay away from it. I've read that it's a good bang-for-buck card. it's not gonna do well if you have a big monitor, but if you're gaming at 1280x1024, it does well. It's like the old GTS320, but better. I've even read that it's very OCable. Check out this video for a review on the EVGA branded card.
As for purchasing on danawa, just have a Korean friend help you navigate it. You can tell them you want to pay by bank transfer and that's it. They'll ship it all to you. You could even have your friend call them and they could assemble it for 20,000 or so.
That's a starting point that you can work from.

Or this:
MB - ASUS P5KC: 140,000
CPU - Q6600: 211,000
VGA - HIS HD 3870 IceQⅢ DDR4 512MB: 180,000
RAM - CORSAIR TWIN2 DDR2 4G PC2-6400 DHX CL4 (2Gx2) : 149,000
HDD - Seagate 500GB (7200.11/32M): 93,000
ODD - Samsung DVD-Multi: 30,000
Power - Zalman ZM-600 HP: 108,000
Case - Generic: 30,000
TOTAL: 939,000
Nice to see Corsair is now widely available in Korea. |

When are you going to build your gaming rig, Spliff?
Been talking about it for a year or more now. |

Anyone building a budget system that doesn't very carefully look at the 3870 needs their heads examined. |

Right! When he does this, we'll all need an invitation so that we can all converge into his house and have a party! |

A Sapphire HD3870 with the Zalman VF1000 fan would be my GPU of choice at the moment.
Ridiculously cheap at 190,000. |
