hagwon asked me to stay an extra week and i said sure but my visa will have to be extended.

today they told me that it is the same paperwork to extend for 6 months so they will apply for that.

i'm now thinking that may be a bad idea as i'm going to leave korea for a few months and then return to a new school.

if my current e2 visa is extended for another 6 months and i try to get a new e2 visa from another school will i have to get a letter of release from the old school if the 6 months isn't finished ?????

should i tell them only to extend for the additional week or two ?????

Make sure that your extension is as long as - AND ONLY AS LONG AS you want to stay there.

If they extend you longer you WILL CREATE problems when you want to change jobs.

Also, if you extend for 6 months, they may try to hold you to it.

2 more questions for you:

** does extension require a criminal record check????....i have an old one dated march 23, 2007....no good i assume?....in which case extension is impossible????

** does extension require a new contract to be written????

many thanks,

An extension will require either a new contract or an amendment to your current contract (one page is fine) that indicates any changes of the terms of employment and the new termination date.

You also require a CRC that is less than 6 months old and has either an embassy notarized affidavit of authenticity or an appostile attached to it (depending on where you are from).
