"keith" is a comic genius. this little scene is probably up there as one of my favorites, along with brent going home to get his guitar, and his painfully embarrassing dance.
i think this keith scene displays why i prefer the english version so much. it's more understated, relying on timing. i don't see how the american version is so much different to such sitcoms as just shoot me. it's so much more raucous and up in ur face. it seems like the american has to hit u in the face with its humour, while the english one piles up the comic tension at a slightly slower rate. the uncomfortable pauses and reactions are what make the english one so much funnier, imo, and i don't think the american one does this quite so well. |

I've only seen a couple shows plus youtube, so maybe I just need to go find the entire show of the English one before I pass judgment. I did love the opening scene. (She has left 'im... Forgot about that.)
To me though, the US one is incredibly tense and awkward. Also, I think the Dwight/Gareth character works better as a more "in your face" element, and since he's the funniest character in the show that might be why I like the US one better. |

I thought the last one wasn't great, but I love Ryan and Toby teaming up to screw Jim. Ryan is kind of the most interesting character right now -- between his cocaine problem and his defensiveness, watching his death spiral is going to be fun. And cringe-tastic.
Just one more episode left in the season! |

| I need to disagree. I think the American The Office, if not getting better and better, has remained strong. |

| I find it very hard to watch the American version after first watching the Original BBC version. The American one has never seemed quite right. |

I'm British and I watched the original version when it was first aired. I love it. I think it's the best british comedy ever made.
When I first watched the American version I was pretty un-impressed. They took a couple of British scripts and Americanized them and they were shit. However since the second season, the American version has really picked up. The US version of The Office is NOT the same animal as it was in the original, but it IS a good comedy in its' American incarnation. Although both the US and UK versions are set in offices, it's almost unfair to keep the same label; they're such different shows now.
I rate the American version of The Office as almost as good as Arrested Development. Arrested Development was always as good as the best Seinfeld episodes, and a lot better than the bad ones.
I love the US office =) Not the same as the British one; they're different animals; but I love it anyway. |

the bit in the recent episode where michael asks if Phyllis' friend can fit in a row boat was pretty funny! |

It's amazing that they can copy the original so much and get away with it. How can anyone respect their writers. The show has already been done with the bbc, it was good, why didn't they just leave it alone.
What really amazes me is the number of people who don't realize there was a bbc version before the American one. They think all the stuff they're watching is brilliant original comedy. |

Haven't seen the U.S. version yet.
The original Office was good. But it's all Ricky Gervais. You'll either love him or hate him.
I find the ranting about the original series a bit of "if you don't share the same enthusiasm for this show you just don't 'get it'" horseshit.
Worth watching but nowhere near the level of genius so many claim. |

as far as i know, only the yank pilot episode used the pom writing. other than that, it's all new stuff, apart from basic characterisations etc. gervais himself says he really likes the american version. |

As stated above, only the first few episodes really mirrored the original. No wonder since Gervais helped write them (the US version).
They're both good in my opinion. |

| It's worth noting I thought that the first season of the American version wasn't really that special, but the second season was better, and the 3rd was great. |
