Greetings,
Is there anyone out there who has read/studied this book, and if so, do you think it is a good teaching tool for studying English, and of course for evangelizing? I am establishing an ESL ministry and I am considering using this book.
In Christ,

This book is fake Christianity. It's basically a feel good book with little to do with Christianity, the bible is not even qouted, but rather footnoted. The book is spiritually empty - a shell with nothing to offer a Christian - Joel Osteen is a poser.
as for teaching with it, unless the student is already at the high intermediate level it will be too difficult. |

I read this book, and it is spiritually enlightening. I am looking for the rest of this series of books. Do you know where I can find them ? As for using this book as a tool for witnessing, sure it certainly brings the message. |

I am not in Korea so can't advise you as to where you can buy them locally. You may want to purchase them online.
Best,

Criticisms
One complaint is that Warren fails to present the evangelical Christian gospel accurately--failing to accurately represent the nature of sin, repentance and hell and the blood sacrifice of God's son Jesus as the means to be forgiven by God for sins and allow man to have a relationship with God.[7] Some critics accuse him of absolving his readers of moral responsibility by making Satan into an all-pervasive godlike figure contrary to both orthodox theology and psychological soundness,[8] and some contend that when citing Scripture, Warren jumps from one Bible version to another, cherry-picking whichever paraphrase or translation supports whatever point he attempts to convey.[9] The practice of using translations selectively is defended by others.[10] Yet another common complaint pertains to Warren's statement that "Whenever God wanted to prepare someone for his purposes, he took forty days"[11]--a claim which critics affirm to be both overly broad and contradicted by Scripture.[12] The Purpose Driven Life bases much of its conclusions on creationist and intelligent design theories, which draws criticism from those opposed to creationism. The book also claims that religion is a precursor to morality, opening criticism from those who believe that atheists can be moral and that morality in fact forms the basis for religions, and not the other way around. |

a purpose-driven life?
that explains those who come to believe "life has no purpose" leads to a 'therefore' by their own logic that they have to become nihilistic in terms of values
the basic premise seems odd
(K-in-C, looks like you found in religion the love you were looking for) |

Years ago I started a Valentine's Day thread about looking for love and you PM'd me to say you were too.
I'm still looking.
Didn't mean to embarass you by my words. Just thought it explained your turning to religion more. I guess many people do when they get older. |

If you need religion to show you the purpose of your life, you have an empty soul. |

From the title, it assumes that all we need is a "purpose" "goal" to be alright and normal. It does well in a secular humanist culture that worships self. It fits in well with the Prosperity Gospel and other New Age theologies which preach materialism, self-reliance, and wealth as the goal to happiness and success.
Christianity is not about achievement, independence, or finding self esteem by purpose. It is about relationships. Restoring relationships with people whom we have sinned against. Christianity is about renewing relationships with family, friends and our community. Ultimately, it is about restoring our relationship with God. |

The 'Purpose' is what God wants of us. You can't always/often judge a book by its' title. |
