Okay, get this! I am going to assemble a PC so that we can keep it in the living room. I will attach it to the nice, new T.V. that we have. So, I need a basic bare bones system that will run dvd's and videos flawlessly. My TV has component and S-video outs. Help me build the cheapest one possible as the Tower will ONLY be used for Movies. !!!!

Check out www.avsforum.com and look for the Home Theater PC's link on the left. You'll find exact systems tried and tested, as well as comments.

Or just click here:

Laughing Did you pay for that TV??

Unless you tell us different, then I assume that TV is not an HDTV. So all you have to do is build a normal and very cheap PC. Just use the quietest case fans possible and maybe a passively-cooled GPU.

To simply play movies with S-video out I wouldn't pay more than 350,000 for the lot. But to keep the noise level down you might need to spend a little more........you'll want a quiet PSU for starters.

You could also use an HTPC case for asthetic reasons. A tower will look pig-ugly sitting on your sideboard.

If it's not doing anything other than playing videos you might get away with no cooling and a decent heatsink on an older CPU.

ha! got everything working and it's great with movies, but man, the main screen (the desktop) is nasty blurry. However, when I play movies, it's okay. I wonder why?
