Everytime I walk past my door, I check to make sure it's locked, particularly in the evening. I didn't grow up in a bad neighborhood, nor endured a break-in, so it's a bit perplexing...

Yeah - my shower is strange. The water drains out of the shower area into a drain under the sink. After I'm done showering, I have to take the shower head and spray it on the drain for a couple minutes to clear the shampoo suds. The bathroom floor is consequently always wet.

That's generally pretty standard. Shower stalls are rare, bathtubs are even rarer.

I wanna play!

My apartment is great- good location, lots of light, no mold etc, but there isn't a 90 degree angle or level line anywhere in the place. Living here has raised all sorts of interesting questions.

Should ones' curtain rods be parallel to the window frame or the ceiling? (they're not parallel to each other, of course) What about hanging art? What is the most appropriate profanity to use when one's breakfast slides off the table and into your lap, due to the slope? (okay, that one hasn't happened- yet)

i got one for ya, my toilet is blocked and overflows when it flushes, what can i do? I was told to put my used toilet roll in the hand bin beside the bog when i arrived, though i thought that was disgusting- in a 1 room flat the place would stink of shit. Any ideas, advice- its bound to have happened before to someone...

My apartment is pretty good, but the water in the bathroom is always SCOLDING hot. Either that or I turn off the water heater and take cold showers.

My officetel. Every other room on my floor has a working doorbell. Mine does not work. My peephole is non-existant. I have candy wrappers and paper blocking my peephole. Real safe and Secure.

My place last year was an absolute dump. The photo shows the pipe from the air-conditioner going straight through the glass, which also prevented the rest of the window from closing. Awesome in winter.

The black cable is for internet. However, when the guys turned up to install it, rather than put it through the hole seen above, they drilled a smaller one through the other side of the window frame, and stuck it through there. The problem was that they did such a bad job that the window and the flyscreen wouldn't close on that side either.

I had them come back and move the cable. What a waste of my time and theirs.

Other problems with that place:

The bathroom was so cramped I had to spread my legs wide while taking a dump because my knees wouldn't fit otherwise, the bathroom door was designd so that water ran out of the bathroom onto the floor, the floor was not level, the drain stank, the washing machine was on the roof of the villa, the lino on the floor was laid over older stuff and was full of bubbles not to mention being poorly cut to fit the floor, the door didn't fit properly, and I could hear rats in the roofspace.

thanks guys,
my apartment is the size of a postage stamp, the walls are paper thin and the neighbours are noisy at all kinds of godforsaken hours (same goes for the fridge), and there are no curtains or way to hang them, so I get woken by the sun in the mornings
and yet, after reading all your posts, I now feel much better about this place...

Mine is the same way! except there's no little hole in the glass, the window just doesn't shut all the way. Neither does the screen.

Me too. That's what extension cords are for.

I love my place. Two bedroom with veranda, right under a mountain, South facing with tons of natural light. However, it seems that the owners hired a 1 hour contractor or a man with no arms to do the painting. They only put one thin coat on the doors so you can see through in many spots the old color. They obviously didn't tape around the windows and doors when they were painting because there is paint on the hinges and on the walls....and even on some of the windows....it's rather funny. However, I can overlook it since everything else about the place is perfect for me at this point in time.

Hahaha I was in a place like that too! It bothered me a lot. Windows should close. Especially when it's cold and heat is really expensive.
