Hello, silentwhispers.
Pollen and yellow dust are quite different.
There are many threads related to yellow dust on this board. But here, I'll do it for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_dust
We were lucky this year. There was hardly a bad day in Seoul. But last year I remember going outside and the entire sky was yellow. Quite different from pollen. |
I thought this year, my 3rd, was by far the worst, but I suspect being well over the honeymoon period has something to do with it.
I've a cough too, but it could be the 5 cigars I smoked on Monday night or a mild cold. |

There's a bacterial bronchial infection that's spreading like wildfire. All the kids at school seem to have it or are carriers. Since I've been in Korea I've either been sick with it, on meds for it (antibiotics) or in the 3 or 4 day stretch between getting rid of it and catching it again.
Moral of the story, get thyself to a doctor and get some antibiotics. You'll feel better.
PS The pollen, pollution and yellow dust certainly don't help matters. |

I think the culprit is likely to be all the coughing, sneezing students. But the air would certainly weaken one.
I read an estimate that the air pollution in China kills 1,000,000 in China every year!
The number was around 10,000 deaths a year in the states. |

I'm sick too! I lost my voice yesterday and have a sore throat? I have some yellow mucus coming up from the back of the throat where the nose meets. (I apologize in advance for being gross) I have some congestion in my lungs with some body aches. I'm taking some cold medicine but you guys think I need a trip to the doctor? It's my first month here and I'm not sure what to do. |

I second that it may well be hayfevere for many of you. I know that's what's bothering me. My head feels like it's gonna explode.

Do all of you all complaining about nasty stuff...
Try taking some antihistamines (zyrtec) for the pollen and decongestants (sudafed) for the crap in your throat. That's what I did previously and it helped.
And drink lots of water! |

Is it hayfever season in Korea? I'm severly allergic to ragweeds but I don't think my symptoms are allergy related. Thanks for all the help though. |

Trip to Doctor in the states:
Take several hours or a day off work (and lose the resulting pay from your paycheck), pay $40 or $50 or more to the doctor for copays, x-rays, etcetera... Pay $10 or $20 to the pharmacist per perscription.
When all's said and done, it's an expensive and time-consuming nightmare...oh, and that's IF you can even get an appointment.
Trip to Doctor in Korea:
In and out in 10 minutes prior to work. The entire thing (including all prescriptions) costs about 7,000 won. Quick and painless and NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY - just pop in.
Be smart. See a doc. |

Morning stretches and some aerobic exercise really helped me out. I took a break from conditioning because I felt sick and only got worse. Then i went on a two day food binger, started into some hard exercise and that lung crap just came popping out. That said, i still have some in my lungs but I have noticed that when doing the aerobic exercise I seem to hack a lot and get the stuff out rather than just hack and get nothing...
I have already gone through two round of meds, the upper respiratory infection is pretty much solid.Until the yellow dust, that is still very much around Busan as shown by the neon yellow trace marks from the rain, I will probably continue to feel sick. So you may feel sick regardless of the medicine you take. I would suggest making sure you get your multivitamin, lots of water and eat plenty of good food, like you probably should be doing anyways. Breathing in hot moist air also helps me sometimes.

I get charged a bit more just 7,000. I have always had to pay about 30 for everything, but when I go in the doc gives me 7 days of meds, not 3, and it's a complete grab-bag. |

I'm in Busan now with friends, actually. I can't sleep because my cough is so bad, so I'm in a PC Bang. There was no 역 open so I can't get anything in a pinch, not at least until tomorrow morning.
Everytime I lay down, I can feel crap in my chest and I can't stop coughing, even after full concentration. Should I really go to a doctor for this? |

If your cough is so bad that you can't sleep then definitely. |
