Due to alot of factors i've decided (where possible) to boycott Korean products.
I'm only going to shop in Homeplus which is owned by the UK company Tesco. While shopping there i will buy Tesco or foreign products (they seem to be expanding the Tesco line with cereals, pasta sauces, pasta.)
I will not buy any LG, Samsung, or Hyundai products.
This doesn't mean a major life change for me but where there is an option i will purchase the non-korean alternative.
I would rather purchase European, Australian, American, Canadian, or New Zealand produce.
P.S. I will retain my Korean girlfriend  |

| Are there any examples of a successful consumer boycott, anywhere, any time? I remember my alma mater's student union placed an embargo on Nestle products for their alleged foisting of baby milk on the hapless inhabitants of third world countries. I am sure they were quaking in their boots. |

Gotta agree with this. It's impossible to boycott Korean foods/companies here.
I mean, if you took it all the way, you would have to grow your own food AND make your own drinks.
"Foreign" beers and drinks are made and bottled here in Korea. Every company is at least partially Korean-owned.
It would be as futile as boycotting Chinese products in the US. You just can't do it unless you are uber-rich and import everything yourself.
"alot of factors" is the uproar over American beef, I can assume. Don't waste your time. |

Yes, Korean government has been successful in boycotting US beef for many years. |

Yes, Korean government has been successful in boycotting US beef for many years. |
Yeah. Completely destroyed the U.S. beef industry. Can't find a hamburger there anywhere.
Actually, I think the montgomery bus boycott was successful. |

As for boycotts not working i will leave you with the wisdom that Tesco has preached: "Every little helps."

Soo....... you don't mind that the righteous, wonderful, upstanding corporation known as Samsung will get a cut of your money, even if they do only own 10%?
It just seems like a futile effort. How are you going to buy EVERYTHING non-korean? How will you drink (Water, beer, soda), among other things? You will have to break down sometime and get something that is Korean, even if you believe it is not. Heck, even going to Home Plus is supporting the Korean economy much more than GB's.
(Ah, upon reading again your OP, I see you will still buy Korean when necessary. Well, good luck to you then, hope you feel better.)

81% as a matter of fact. Still, it wouldn't hurt you to check some facts before posting off the top of your head like that. Edit, and you'll find that most things you buy here have some kind of local component or joint-ownership. It's gonna cost you an absolute friggin motza and even if you do buy completely foreign-owned brands from somewhere like, say Hannam Market, you'll still be handing over money to a Korean retailer. Again, your quest, even if it was noble, is a completely futile one.
