It's great to watch 5% of what I've worked a year for evaporate before my eyes. I wonder how many classes with screaming kids that 5% is worth.

5%? When I came in August, the exchange rate was about 930. Now it is 1065 as of today. (U.S. Dollar). 2.2 million won was worth about $2365. Now it is worth about $2060. More like 13%.

Someone mentioned about other currencies. But the Yen is more now (exchange rate) than it was two weeks ago. So, what would be a better currency to put the money into? Any ideas are appreciated.

May 20:

KEB rate: 1064.31 won to buy $1CDN

Yeah..... Confused

EDIT: That's the wire rate which would apply to most of us. Cash rate is even worse.

Me too.

I hope it's right. They have the American pegged at 840, and it costing 1.15 Canadian to buy one American dollar by that time.

They don't have an exact C$ to KRW figure.

They expect inflation to ease here because commodities will cool off this year, and they seem to think 2MB will be good for business.

I sure hope so. Thats about around the same time I'll be cashing in my chips and heading back home for good. If I stay with the plan!

The won is horrible right now.. i just check the XE website.

2,000,000.00 KRW = 1,898.591 CAD
South Korea Won Canada Dollars
1 KRW = 0.000949295 CAD 1 CAD = 1,053.41 KRW

These may not be exact rates.. but you get the point!

So the point for long-termers eyeing a possible return west is...

sit on the Won nest egg, and ride out the wait. Right?

I guess so. But although the Economist is respected, if they were perfect they would just close up and their staff would become investor billionaires.

It's all up in the air, but long-termers can have some hope.

I am going to send to the US more money next month than I did this month. I believe the won will go down further. Korea wants to export more stuff to the US and the dollar went down quite low for the taste of the Koreans. It would make it easier for Korea to export.
