| Hello all, I am leaving New Brunswick, Canada for Anyang (about a 15 minute subway ride from Seoul) and need some input. I'm sure that this has been discussed before, but is there any suggestions on what to pack, what to leave home, etc. Also, I'm going to a school called ECY Anyang. Can anyone tell me anything about the place or the school. Should I bring stuff like razors, shaving gel, deodarant, feminine hygiene products, hair dye, etc. What about teaching...should I bring anything specific from the grand land of Canada? Thanks for your input. I'm greatly appreciated. |

| mmmmm......granola bars. If you like granola bars, raisin bran, licorice or fruit snacks bring 'em along because you won't find them in Korea. The only thing that kept me from going crazy was a kind-hearted aunt who sent me some of this stuff |

Why didn't you check this out before you signed??? Also, I think Anyang is further than 15 minutes form Seoul(I suppose it depends on where you are going).

Pack enough clothes to get you through two seasons.
You sound like a woman...pack a year's worth of undies.
Bring a few months' worth of personal care items, a years' worth if you are very particular about your brands.
The situation is getting better, but I would still bring a years' worth of feminine care items...unless you use only pads and like Always-style.
I would bring a years' worth of deodorant, especially if you are particular about brand or are unwilling to pay US$25 for deodorant.
Bring a years' worth of hair dye unless you are willing to be experimented on!
Bring some storybooks, stickers, and a good book of kids' word finds.
If you are a reader, bring a few months' worth of reading materials. |

Hi, I live in Anyang. Have never heard of the school, though thats hardly surprising. Do you know what part of Anyang you'll be living in? It is also a lot further than 15 mins to Seoul. Trust me! It's roughly 30/40/50 mins to diff places in Seoul. Anyangs pretty cool, it does have a foreigner bar, and they do open mike nights, etc, which do suck, but it's nice to talk with other wae-gooks.
Bring deoderant - the only stuff i've seen is the rexona spray on stuff, which doesn't work for me. If you have a favourite beauty brand, such as blackmores, etc, bring a years supply. i have yet to see blackmores products anywhere. Tampons - apparently the korean ones are crap. If you like instant puddings - bring those. this has all been said before though.

It is possible to get deodorant now...in the slightly black-market kitchen shops, at the Body Shop, and for a price at the cosmetics counter of large department stores. I would still bring a years' worth, because I'm picky!
Tampons are much more available than they were a short time ago. And not just the Korean Tempo ones -- they have Western brands as well. I don't use them myself, but I think if you brought a month's supply to get yourself started and weren't too picky, you could get by. |

| speaking of girl type products - can u get the pill out there? and what about waxing products/services? i managed to horrify some of my former taiwanese co-teachers when i was trying to ask about that so thought it might be better to consult u guys! |

Open mike nights are cool becuase you can read poetry at them. Or you can go up there unscripted.
