I am about to order cable (Company is Mapo Cable) and considering getting a flat screen HDTV monitor, similar to what has been discussed recently on other threads.

I want to make sure that the box will connect to the monitor (and receiver/amp) correctly. I haven't looked at the monitors yet, I've only looked at the flat screen HDTV's at Costco and Homever.

1. These big screen monitors have no speakers and no TV receiver, is that right? Sounds good as I will get reception through cable and run sound through my stereo.

2. What connection should the cable box have to connect to the HDTV monitor? Last time I had a cable box it had only a 75 ohm coax out. I just want to make sure the cable box is up to snuff before they ship it out.

3. Should the cable box have a "digital sound out" also? How are you running the sound to your stereo?

Sorry about the basic questions. I just want to ask the right questions to make sure the Monitor and Cable box are in the same decade.

Thanks, Drew

1. Most HDTVs have built-in speakers and digital receivers. I can watch local digital HD broadcasting with just the coax coming out of the wall.

2. My IPTV box is hooked up with R-G-B component cables for HD, but you can also use HDMI for digital signals. Check with the company. You want at least component cables for HD broadcasts.

3. Digital sound output is always good. I'm using A/V stereo cables to connect my box to the TV right now, but as soon as I get an optical cable, I'm going to hook up for digital sound.

No stupid questions. Smile

Good luck. Big TVs are fun!
