Something tells me that when you and your charm are allowed to mingle amongst the living more than a few people are offended. Little do you know that the nodding heads around you are probably just playing nice to your face as it is obvious you got some stability issues. |

While it's not a topic I have done extensive research on, I can tell you that by hanging out in plenty of gay bars in Houston, there are definitely plenty of hardened, thug-looking types who, presumably, are more than likely on the DL. Granted, I haven't conducted a survey, but it's pretty transparent. |
I have never studied the issue either but I would guess the combination of drugs, poverty and ignorance of the issue of HIV has more to do with its growth in the black community than homosexuality does.
Black people just happened to see it was trendy to blame gays for everything under the sun and jumped on the band wagon. |
Actually, much of the criticism is aimed at the black community's attitude towards gays that encourage such behavior. Whereas if we were much more open and accepting, the gay men wouldn't feel the need to marry straight women and decieving them.
It's not exclusive to black people though....it's pretty common in any society/group that heavily ostracizes gays. They won't simply accept the excuse "I just haven't found the right girl yet". Either your working on getting a girlfriend/wife ASAP or your a card carrying fudgepacker.
I personally believe that "men on the downlow" isn't the likely reason....but moreso sharing needles which is a far more likely and successful way of transferring aids or any disease for that matter than sex(even gay) could ever hope to acieve.
Junkie gets aid...junkies do not care about their health or STD checks....Junkie has sex with non junkies....indiscriminately and often as they can get it. Sarah, who's a Rhodes scholar and model citizen who happens to like "rough" or "down and out" guys all of a sudden finds she has aids! "Men on the down-low" is far more appealing than "she dated a few junkies/heavy drug users". |

How can a thinking, rational person in the 21st century still be this stupid? I, personally, have yet to see any scientific studies proving that HETEROsexuality isn't just a lifestyle choice.
