I'm making my plans for summer vacation and I'm considering somewhere in the Philipines. The only thing putting me off is the fact that it seems to be so popular with Koreans.
I want to take a break from the spitting, the shoving and the general rudeness that some Koreans display, so I don't want to fly somewhere just to land in a Korean Town.
I've heard bad stories about their behaviour over there, but is it really that bad?

anywhere you go your going to spot the hiking gear and visors, koreans are everywhere, you will think your free from their perms and spitting and then just when you least expect it you are going to hear "hana, dul, set" and see a camera flash

Are you serious? This is enough to put me off going there. I need to get away from Korea for a couple of weeks, so that means no Korean language, food or general Korean-ness.

Go to Thailand and stay out of the tourist areas of Phuket and Pattaya. Even in the tourist ghettos the Koreans keep to themselves and you won't really see them Thailand has a way of keeping Koreans to themselves.

The only place where I've noticed Koreans has been in the Philippines. The rest of SE is safe. Oh and I found the country to be expensive and boring. Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, India are all much better.

I almost never see Koreans in the Philippines. I see SOME in Boracay, but I see just about every nationality on earth in Boracay.

There are probably SOME in any sex-related place - Angeles, Puerto Galera, etc. I cant imagine Thailand being absent of Koreans in those places either.

But for the most part, I just seldom if ever see Koreans in the Philippines. Then again, I usually go so far off the map of everyone else. The best places in the Philippines are the ones NOT on the main tourist trails.

Its really one of the FEW countries in Asia you can really go anywhere and never have a language barrier/problem, so why confine yourself to any massive tourist area?

I have a British friend who owns a bar on Sukumvhit in Bangkok. He went into a local grocery store and was refused service. It was Korean owned. Amazing

I didn't see any in Manila (Makati)...they all go to Quezon...

In Boracay there are hotels with writing in Korean..I stayed just down the beach and saw very few...

Also, depends when you are going...if not during Korean holidays, you should be fine (that's when I went)...

I find it ironic westerners are complaining about seeing Asian people IN ASIA.

I find this thread strange.

I understand the desire to avoid tourgroups...but can't understand the desire to avoid Koreans. I've met tons of cool Koreans travelling in both China and Vietnam.

I put Korean tourgroups in the same category as Japanese tourgroups, German tourgroups, American tourgroups and so forth. They're pretty much all the same and are all annoying. However, it may be that there are a lot in the Philippines due to the proximity.

Furthermore, complaining that some places have signs or menus in Korean???? Yeesh...I'm sure there are an aboslute ton of people who are more than slightly annoyed that everywhere you go everything is in English!! How about looking at it from a different perspective....or is that too hard?
