A South Korean bio-engineering team led by cloning expert Hwang Woo-suk said Wednesday that it has successfully made three genetically identical copies of a dog that died in 2002.
The feat by Sooam Biotech Research Foundation marks the first time that a dead dog has been cloned....
A source at Sooam said tissue from Missy was cultivated and injected into the ova of ordinary dogs. They added that Hwang played a direct role in the selection of the ova and the complex cell fusion process....
Sooam claimed that advances in the past few years have increased the success rate of dog cloning, and that research reports have been submitted to an international journal for review....
Hwang, a former veterinary professor at Seoul National University, was in charge of a group of scientists that made the world's first cloned dog, Snuppy, in 2005. He, however, was disgraced when his 2004 report on human stem-cell development was shown to be based on fabricated data. |

| I think this was more of a comment about people believing anyone that has or had any status. This guy lies to everybody, then is given a head position in a place that is dealing with the same stuff he had problems with... |

the three animals were clones of Missy, a pet belonging to John Sperling, who is the founder of Genetic Savings and Clone and the chairman of the Apollo Group. The billionaire had asked several labs to clone Missy -- a collie and husky mix -- but all had failed.

I think it says something about a billionaire named John Sperling.
Were you thinking of something specific it said about Korea? |

He's doing all this cloning pets baloney, so he can get foreign investors to fund his lab for the work he lied about before. He wants to prove he wasn't lying, but he needs foreign investors first.
Rots o ruck, raggy. |

| I believe the scientist in question knows his science, but he cut some corners and got caught before. In this case, he may what he produced was legitimate. A billionaire seeking clones of a dog he loved is focusing on being attached to a form. The dog is gone. He could use that money to help people in Burma or somewhere else. Certainly, I would be sad to lose my dog, but I would focus on being grateful for having had such a canine friend and either helping other canines or helping people. What he did was not productive. |

Nothing screams 'DY-NAM-ICK' like cloning dead dogs.
Can't wait to see how they work that into their tourism adverts. |

He won't clone squat. He'll just buy a dog of the same breed and pass those off to owners as their "Fido."
Like when your hamster died while you were at school and your mom ran to the pet store to replace him. It's been a family sit-com staple for decades. |

| Yeah, verified. Right. A few bucks in the right pocket and they'd say you were the dog. |
