anyone out there smoke in their kindy hagwon. My place dont allow instant coffee as its apparently bad for health, so i didnt even ask about smoking, i just assumed that it would set a bad example walking around smelling like an ash tray.

That said, i couldnt give a toss about the little scumbags, i dont think anything could make them worse little shits than they already are and a cigarette to combatt the stress of listening to screaming animals all day would be nice.

Just wondering if anyone else here smokes and works in kindy, feedback please..

I do and I just make sure that I eat mints regularly. Sure a couple of the kids say "You smell smoke teacher'. No complaints from staff or parents though.

I figure as long as you smoke outside where students don't see you, it's fine. It would help if it were breezy and you didn't exhale into the wind. A mint after would be nice. You're an adult. Just make sure it's your break time.

I wouldn't ask your boss if I can smoke, though. I'd say I'm smoking and get him or her to tell me where I can go smoke.

I would smoke, but not immediately before class. And eat mints.

At my elementary school I got 'talked to' about smelling of smoke. Apparently some kids complained to their parents, the parents called the school, the principal was pissed off,...you can guess the rest.

Now I make sure I don't smoke within 30 minutes of a class starting, and I use xylitol and keep garglin mouthwash in my desk. No complaints for two months.

It's a bit rough sometimes getting through four periods in the morning without a smoke.

Never had any complaints in any other job, and that was sometimes with me smoking in 5 minute breaks so I must have been stinking when I returned to the classroom.

Oh, come on. Ask them to put it into the contract that you won't sign. How old do they think you are, like 5. I hate being treated like a baby.

My old hagwon also had a morning kindy where I had the misfortune of having to teach one lesson each day. The other FT and I used to smoke at the window in the stairwell before / after every lesson. There were all kinds of ridiculous complaints at that place but that was never one of them. I imagine the kids just reckoned that foreigners smelled bad.

I thought it was compulsory for men in Korea to smoke?

Seriously though, this is Korea, if you are a man...they literally don't have a leg to stand to stand on... A few months ago I was doing some P/T work at a kindy, I would smoke on my walk there...no complaints (was only there for 2 hours a day...so didn't need to smoke between classes)... One Sunday we had a sports day where all the parents came (and competed with gusto, but that's a different matter).. when we had a break...I ducked off round the corner for a ciggie...and what did I see? but about 2/3 of the father' having a smoke.

My old hagwon used to give me @#$% about smoking...I pretty much said..it's on my break..what's the problem..end of discussion.

My current Elementary PS...is a bit of a misnomer as NONE of the teachers smoke...just the head admin, a janitor and myself... I used to duck off school property (just around the corner) to smoke in my breaks...I'd prefer if the kids didn't see me smoking...after about 2 weeks my co-teacher came up to me...and told me i must go smoke on the roof...

I only smoke when I have a free period...I'd rather not stink of smoke.. but if some kid has an ultra sensitive nose...tough, this is korea..and when in Rome..

I really feel for the female smokers though...

Teachers in Korea who have a doctor as a student have it made. I have been high 24/7 365 for 7 years. I love Korean doctors. And, pills don't smell and last a lot longer.

Very Happy
