|
|
I'm flying in late to Cebu before going to Bantayan. I'd like somewhere convenient and clean to crash for the night. Any recommendations?
Also, I need to stock up on contact lenses. I usually get them in Thailand, but obviously this year I'm going to Philippines. Will daily contact lenses be freely available there in optical stores? How much am I looking at for a box of 30 Focus Dailies?? Is there anywhere in particular in Cebu or Bantayan to get them?
Thanks |

Cebu (mactan airport): there are several choices for overnight accomodation.
Bella Vista ($70) or the Hotel Cesario (sp) $30. 5 minutes away. Rate includes buffet breakfast and airport pickup.
Ace Pensionne ($20-30). You need to catch a cab and it does NOT include breakfast. McD's is right across the street.
There is another pension house next to ACE but I forgot (off the top of my head) the name. Rates from $15-30. Again, 5 minutes from the airport and across the street from the Gaisano-Mactan mall
(actually, all 4 are within easy walking distance of both the Gaisano and Marina malls).
There are optical shops at both malls where you should be able to get your contacts. If they don't carry your favorite brand you can catch a cab for about p100 ($2) over to the SM or Ayalla malls and have your choice of about 5 optical stores in each to choose from.
They are about a 30 ride (p150) from the ferry terminals unless you were catching a bus to Bogo (north end of Cebu Island) and a boat from there.
I have stayed at all 4 and they are acceptable accommodation. Mactan is getting a bit pricy (as are most things in the RP) due to the falling US$ and the strong peso. (peso prices haven't changed over the last few years but the exchange rate certainly has (used to get 55p=$1 - now only p40=$1).

Yeah, contacts are easy to come by in the Philippines.
Where will you stay in Bantayan? 'Tickety Boo Beach Resort' has live music most evenings (wednesday-sunday), and a real nice ocean breeze making it mosquito free while chatting with friends in the evening overlooking the ocean.
On the other hand, Budyoung Beach Resort, is in front of the best beaches, and many huts. You'll be able to step right into the ocean in this location.
I liked Bantayan. You won't easily find contacts in Bantayan, so make sure you hit up the many shopping malls in Cebu beforehand. |
