hey everyone, i've been reading so many posts on this site i'm starting to go a little stir crazy with all the information to absorb! at any rate, i was wondering if anyone knew for sure whether prepaid airfare is ever done by public schools or do they usually just reimburse you. I want to work at a public school first if given the option, but if i can't get prepaid air then i'll just sniff out a decent private school. i'm not usually so picky about things but i am broke as a joke and can't pay for the ticket AND have money to bring with me to hold me over. so anyone knows anything one way or another let me know! thanks!

The PS system don't pay for your initial airfare over there but you do get a refund. What I did though was tell the recruiter in question I hadn't got the airfare and that sawreeeeeeeeee I can't come and the recruiter said that they would stump up the airfare and then they would claim back off GEPIK. (In my paticular case)

Teachers are now a priceless commodity in the bando or so it seems, what I would do if I were you is explain the situation to the recruiter and I'm sure they are not going to lose a teacher for a few hundred quid airfare. It worked for me a any rate! Laughing

It isn't true that it is "never" reimbursed ... Though quick reimbursement when it is paid by the individual is more likely ... If you really can't afford the airfare ... I would just be upfront with recruiter / school from the start and say that airfare paid by the school is one of the things that you must have ... And don't settle for a job which won't do that ... While every job may not be prepared to do it ... You will find employers/recruiters who will do it to get you there if they really want you ...

Like Bejarano-Korea, my recruiter paid my airfare and claimed it back from the (public) school.

As far as I understand it, SMOE does pay for airfare in advance, as long as it is done through Korean air. But you might want to check with others on that.

That is my understanding with SMOE as well. I don't know about the other systems.

Yeah, SMOE pays. They sent me a request form. The others, I believe, you'd have to negotiate for it.
