Itaewon, you sound so angry on this thread. Throwing insults around, calling those who differ from you "extremists". It's difficult to read such negativity in your posts. I'm assuming you're not a Christian(though I haven't read the plurality of your comments), as a Christian would never be attacking others with such vile language as you have.
You criticize others for spelling mistakes while you yourself commit more than most in this thread. Your knowledge is also suspect. By "Jerry orsten" do you mean Joel Olsteen?
Atheists, and agnostics, envision a world based on logic and reason. They see this impeded by religion, if not impossible. They see technological and social progress hindered by religious doctrine, as many of faith use the Bible to object to advances in medicine and human rights. More than anything, they fear global destruction due to religious tension between Muslims and Christians.
Yes, Hitchens and crew are brash in their approach, but that's due to years of frustration and an inability to break through into the mainstream.
I think a good book for you would be A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, which essentially goes beyond religion and into something deeper. |

You don't speak for all atheists and agnostics. Yes, logic and reason are indispensible, but which religions impede these forces and when? Religion can be and often is another vessel through which reason is brought to us.
Hitchens and crew are alternately and sometimes simultaneously idiotic and bombastic in their approach. They can't solve any problems, except how to put money in their own pockets. |

What Itaewonguy is actually talking about (I can understand itaewonguyish as well as English) is not burden of proof, but a powerful enough argument to convince theists once and for all that they are in the wrong, something completely irrefutable. Something along the lines of a showstopper like 'This is gravity. This is how it works, and I can demonstrate it to you a million times right now if you'd like. You can't argue against it.' |
