|
|
After looking at some of my male students, I am afraid of getting my hair cut. It has been 3 months since I had a trim, and I have the start of a good K-mullett. Many of my students look like a gay version of Legolas from 'Lord of the Rings.' Maybe I should just shave my head?
Any tips or good stories? |

I bought a nice pair of clippers here cheap. Less hair is definitely more comfortable in the summertime and much easier to manage, and I don't have to worry about ending up looking like one of the Beatles circa 1964. |

Look about for a decent looking place. You can pretty much get by with hardly any Korean, yoggi and hand gestures to show length, straight sides etc.
The excitement of figuring out what you will look like is half the fun.
I had good haircuts at 5,000 but my latest place is great and is 18,000. |

Beware of places with a spinning red, white and blue pole outside - for my first Korean haircut I had to try four places before I found one that actually cut hair. |

i used to always shave my head, ever since i was about 8,,,,i have the worst hair ever, terrible fringe and cow's licks all over, in places it is not too far off alpalpha from the sandlot kids.
i let it grow from last july for a bit of fun, i got it cut back a bit in October for my brothers wedding, and i went to a place near ewha womens university in february, she spent about 45 minutes cutting and washing it, i never seen so much hair falling from my head ( i usually shave it every week), when she was finished she had thinned it out well and put a bit of a shape to it but it was still the same length. i haven't cut it since....it looks rediculous at this stage.
but that place near ewha was good, it was my fault for telling her to thin it out....they give you a book of style and you choose what you want, most have trained in london, and it costs 30,000won for the cut and about 3-4 hairwashes in between |

Family Hair in Itaewon. Way at the end, toward the base side, across from the McDonalds, halfway up the small hill. Pretty good deal. |

Hints on getting a decent haircut in Korea... don't go to the rundown shop run by the 40 year old adjuma. Odds are she cuts and perms the hair of her adjuma friends and has no formal training.

I understand how you feel, I did not cut my hair here until last week and when it got too long in March this year, I went to Bangkok to the salon that I had used for several years before... a bit expensive for a regular 6 or 8 week cut, but I have to add that I went there also on a business occasion so I did not have to pay for the flight.
Useless advice aside, I ran into the same problem this month and while I was waiting for the bus that didn't come (did they change the frequency of the 363? It used to arrive every 10 to 15 minutes) I saw a "Blue Club" salon on the other side of the road. They had "Welcome! Come Inside" signs at the door (the same is also implicated by the barber pole basement shops, hohoho) but of course nobody spoke any English, just what I was afraid of. Anyways, they showed me a book with haircuts, only two pictures since the state of my hair does not allow for anything fancy, and I picked the one where the ears were free.
Everything else was a matter of maybe 15 minutes, dry cut and hair bits vacuumed off my shoulders (which was odd, really odd) and 5,000 won. Doesn't even look so bad, considering mt circumstances.
A far cry from a Thai haircut experience though, I figure that the salons where you pay more also wash your hair at least once. Nect time I try again in Bangkok, I got used to 3x wash and scalp massage plus 2x wash after cut. |

Well, my hair is straight and doesn't need any 'styling' as such, just a basic cut. I've been in plenty of those backstreet places where they don't speak English. I just show them how much I want cut off and they do a pretty good job. No problem. |

I think the place you're talking about is Zen. I went there for the first time yesterday, and got a great cut. Their number is 02 363 4253. Make an appointment with Lucy. |

Does anyone have any recent experiences with haircuts at the Green Turtle in Itaewon? I don't need anything too fancy - a cut with some layers in straight hair. Older threads have good reviews about someone named Michael... does anyone know if he is still there? I'd just like to go somewhere close to home. |

My friend went to a double barber pole place for a haircut.
He went there with his girlfriend. They were really confused as to what he wanted. He finalyl got htem to understand he wanted a haircut. The hostess cut his hair while she was wearing a negligeee and all the other female employees came out and was talking to his girlfriend, asking her all sorts of questions.
He came out there with a pretty good haircut. They even said that was the first time they acutally cut hair in the years they've been in business. |

Ha, I love it. Ive often wondered about those double barber pole places, I mean usually do they jerk a guy off and then get the mirror out so he can view it from different angles and appreciate the good job they did. |
