There is a 2 week on-site course being offered in conjunction with EFL-Law and Rod Ellis which looks to be a great program. It costs about 1 million won, and is being offered this summer. Is anyone else interested in this course? I'm interested in it because it's taught by Rod, rather than young indoctrinated trainers with far less experience.

Yum Bum... you took this same course, right? What did you think?

Bassexpander, I signed up two weeks ago for this course in Busan. Yea, people teaching TESOL courses need lots of experience. All beliefs -- any beliefs in God, teaching philosophy, morality -- should be deeply held. Otherwise, what good are they? If you're going, PM me. (I'm not be facetious or anything).

Sounds like a good deal.

Looks good, but it doesn't come close to the magic "120 hour" mark which is required/expected by so many jobs that expect TEFL cert or offer raises based on TEFL cert.

PS, i further checked it out and it issues a certificate which states the course is 120 hours (for the reason above, I assume), yet the course runs from 9-12, then from 1-3 for 12 days. My average math adds that up to 60 hours.. Can anyone explain?

How does any employer know how long any TEFL course takes, other than by looking at the certificate itself? I can't imagine them checking these things out that carefully. Or how about an on-line TEFL for that matter - is it possible to pin down an exact hour count on a course where there's no class time?

I asked the guy running the Busan course about the 120-hour claim. He said that reading (35-40 hours) and practical experience factor into the total length of the course. The whole business is a moot point for a fair number of public school teachers anyway - TEFL certification doesn't increase the salary of someone who is already at Level One of the pay scale.

Love it, but hate the hours. Any chance of opening up a course for academy teachers who'll be working the morning/afternoon shift during the our student's summer vacation? What about a morning class for July when the kids are still in school?
