I see. A tasteless joke and the Guardian apologized profusely.
Has the Fox network apologized yet? I haven't heard it, but I've been busy so maybe I missed it.
Again, exercise your imagination a bit - some wingnut whacjob pulls out a gun at an Obama rally ... would an apology be enough.
A difference with the Guardian, by the way: the airwaves are owned by the American people and leased in trust to the networks. Fox needs permission to use them, and that permission ought to be pulled if this sort of speech is allowed. Incitement, nothing more or less.
By the way, evey one of Jeff Jarvis's examples are mild as day-old Hawaiian Punch compared to a typical half our of Fox or an average broadcast segement of Rush Limbaugh.
Oh, and thanks for finding the link for me. I do appreciate it because I really was just interested, and I know you didn't think I was accusing you of inventing things. You've usually got a source for whatyuou say, even if we disagree on interpretations of what's in it. |
Well I think Fox ought to apologize.
I don't think it was a planned joke by Fox but nevertheless they ought to fix it. |

I don't either, but strangely that just makes it worse, to me - that a joke about assassination - murder, not mere character assassination, which is common and yawnworthy, but a casual remark advocating a man's death ... that this just trips so casually off the tongue of conservatives - it boggles the mind, really.
The second mind-blowing thing was how the host of the program saw nothing onjecxtionable or noteworthy about what the woman said. Just another day, just another incitement to violence.
Fox should not only apologize, but they should ban this woman from their programs and the producers and host of that particular show should be sanctioned and made to apologize publicly as well. That's in addition to any action the FCC might consider - and again, it's absurd that 6-figure fines are levied for saying the 'F' word but advocating the death opf a political candidate merits no attention at all.
Fair and balanced, eh? Get real. |
