|

Backward arbitrary limits/rules like these show why foreign investment/spending is low. I don't mind the foreign registration part (I expect some hurdle solely because I'm not Korean), but to impose spending limits is stupefying.
For safer shopping, we request our customers to complete a foreign card verification process.
Please follow the 3 steps below:
1) Fill out the application form below and submit it.
2) Fax or E-mail us the copy of your card with Gmarket ID
2) We recommend you to remove the last 4 digit of the card when you send the copy for safety.
2) (Fax : 02-3016-5453 or from outside of Korea : 82-2-3016-5453) ,
2) (E-mail : [email protected])
3) We will contact you for the result of verification status by e-mail or phone.
4) You can register maximum 3 cards under your ID.
The fax number above is used exclusively for this verification process, safety managed by security staffs. Also, once the process is completed, submitted supporting documents will be immediately destroyed.
Please note that we have limit on foreign card which are
- 3 million KRW for each User per month
- 2 million KRW for each order |

The obvious solution:
1) Register using the Korean side of the site
2) Use a Korean CC |

But aren't Korean credit cards given to foreigners essentially pre-paid (i.e. you've given your Korean CC company 1 million won, so you can spend 1 million from it)? |

Nope. Well, not entirely nope. Only if you work in a hakwon.
If you work at a university (not unigwan) or PS you can get an unsecured credit card from a number of companies.
A secured card is more like a car loan than a prepaid card. You place money in a term deposit. You earn interest on said deposit. You pledge the deposit as security against your CC. You get the CC with a limit that is about 95% of the value of the pledged security.
The card works like any other credit card.
BIG NOTE HERE: Korean cards are more like the old AMEX cards - For the most part (with certain exceptions) your entire outstanding balance is cleared monthly and you don't carry a balance like you would at home.

It still seems like a case of one step forward and two steps back for the land of the morning fruit truck. |

Not if you work in PS or uni or other non-hagwon job. I have 4 CCs, and none of them required a co-signer or a deposit. |

If you wish to have the balance rollover to the next month, rather than pay everything off at the end of each monht, you must tell the teller this is what you wish the day you apply for the card. They won't change it after the fact. |

hahaha...Now, cyworld won't accept American Express cards anymore. That is how I bought acorns to buy songs, designs, etc. Now, cyworld just won't get a won out of me. Losers! |
