| If anything really bad is going to happen to you, it will happen in a bar, when you're drinking. People sometimes get drugged, or are convinced to wander off with someone they just met. Keep your wits about you, many con-men are very, very friendly and smooth. |

My first time in BKK I went back to a bargirls apartment. She could have drugged me and robbed me blind. I did pretty much everything you weren't supposed to do.
If anything bad is going to happen to you it will happen on Kho San road.
Most of the farangs there are sooo green. Any back roads are dodgy.
there's some really nasty ladyboy ready to pick your pockets |

Ready to grab your balls with a cutthroat in their hands and tell you to hand your wallet to their friends or your nuts will become earings. |

| Thailand's fine if you're solo. I'm spending six weeks there this summer, mostly in Bangkok but with some travel plans to other parts of the country. It'll be my fifth time. So far so good. You might want to book your hotels online in advance; don't show up and look around for whatever you can find, and definitely don't solicit recommendations from taxi/tuk-tuk drivers. Have your hotel organize a pickup at the airport, too. That way, you can avoid the taxi queue and the BS of dealing with taxi drivers who will try to rip you off by not using the meter. This is especially helpful if you're arriving late at night. FWIW, Chiang Mai is also well worth a look. And use condoms. |
whoa, whoa! let's not get ahead of ourselves. you might want to book accomodations in advance, IF, and only if, it's high season. having a place or area in mind is great, but you don't need to overplan. that's part of the appeal of thailand. when you fly into bangkok there are great, reasonably priced, air-conditioned buses that can get you anywhere in town. if it's late and bus service has stopped, go to the official desk outside by the registered taxis and they'll provide you with a receipt for a pre-determined fare. quick and easy. never take the overpriced transportation from your hotel. the advice about not asking for advice from tuk-tuk drivers is something to live by. |
