I was just thinking about this today.

A lot of people browse Dave's at work, and a lot of people frequently have NSFW images as well as NSFW avatars displayed on a regular basis, without any warning.

Is there any possibility that moderators could take this under discretion and possibly implement some kind of feature that disables all images from loading on the forums? A setting you could turn on and off, possibly?

That would be nice, especially the avatars. They tell us next to nothing about a poster anyway.

At the risk of sounding like a prude, I was thinking the same thing the other day. I'm not offended by any of the avatars personally, but sometimes circumstances conspire to embarrass me. A couple of days ago I was rummaging through this site and had a window open about something or other. One of the avatars was sexually suggestive in nature (of a woman). My co-teacher came over and talked to me and kept wincing at my screen. It took me a minute to figure out the problem.

I'm not trying to promote censorship or anything like that. If it were up to me, everything would be socially acceptable. But this ain't my country and things, especially in a female dominated industry like education, are more conservative here. I would ask people to be a little more discerning when choosing their avatars. I mean, I can check out pics like that on the internet on my own time. I don't need them shoved in my face at work. I realize it's my responsibility to choose what's appropriate for work and what's not and if it is a problem then its up to me to deal with it.

Don't jump all over me and freak out. It's just that I don't understand the reasoning behind using such sexually suggestive images on a site about teaching. Please enlighten me.

Not needed.

You can do it yourself with Internet Explorer.

And, yes, after re-reading my post and looking at my avatar I can see how it could be considered the most offensive of all. (I'll let you with your minds in the gutter figure that one out).

But it's an actual photo of me. The one I used for my E-2. I swear!

Sunday morning I was reading Dave's and there was a large image of an orangutang licking a woman's nipple. Yeah, that's kind of funny but what if I'd been at work. How would I justify my apparent behavior (browsing bestiality photos) to a Korean onlooker. Or what if a student saw what I was looking at?

It's an excellent technique to shut down this site and discredit English teachers. I could live with disabling the image function to combat these attacks, no problem. Whoever's doing this wants to shut us down permanently and won't stop. Apparently there's no way to stop them except stop all images.

Foreign English teachers are not allowed to unionize but we have a voice here.

I teach the same lesson sixteen times a week to sixteen different classes. I only teach two and a half hours a day, and have an additional five and a half hours of nothing. There's only so much prep I can do to one fifty minute lesson plan. What else am I supposed to do? Wink

I've become a big fan of Adblock on Firefox, and I use it to disable the more hideous and annoying avatars: Spliff's was the first to go, followed by the gigantic Dave pic (sorry, big guy, but I got tired of it), all the ones with jiggling breasts, and so on. I'm anything but a prude and no one at my office would be able to see what I'm looking at without really making an effort, but still, the fewer moving flashing visual distractions, the better.

I changed mine for all of you. I haven't received a single complaint, but I did get tired of all the PMs asking who she was.

That dude with the huge, "nice" ass in the white pants has got to do something about his. It always jumps off the screen... worst part: not even appealing. At least the girl with the bouncing jugs was nice to look at. And small, so not noticeable from far away.
