I've been home less than a week and met a Korean girl at a nearby university last Friday. In the 30-mile radius surrounding my mother's house in England, there are 8 or more major universities and zillions of yummy Asian girls, including Koreans. Anyway, she's really nice and interesting. She studies English at undergraduate level so obviously her English is excellent (though still the same old pronunciation issues). She said usually Koreans, especially girls, who study abroad do so with a boyfriend or other companion (true? I've no idea).

Anyway, ever met a K-girl outside of Korea? Describe any noteworthy differences or points.

More open minded...Willing to try more and more unusual things..They dont have the same societal pressures as at home UNLESS theres a big community of koreans...so dont hang out with her at the korean society or anything like that..

Mods, I encourage the full restoration of the "Don't Do it, Boys!" thread and for it to be made a sticky.

Thank you

Female friend/clessmates, yes. Boyfriends? BS. The parents would never allow it if they found out.

I fell for a Korean chick back in London way back when, only to meet her again two years later in Seoul.. Cool Well, she always comes across as more laid back and direct about things than other Korean girls I know so that's all I can say on that. Despite having an ass for a personality, I still like her in a love/hate kinda way simply because of that independence and unique personality which separates her from the masses.

Not so- my co-teachers daughter studies at a Canadian university alongside her boyfriend of 3 years who is also a student. Oma & Opa are quite happy with the arrangement although they want him to graduate and get a high-paying job before any wedding.

My girlfriend came to the US with me.

We have always talked about how the Koreans on campus all stay in packs. She doesn't want them to know she's Korean because she's 98% sure they will try to persuade her to go to church in that ever-so-gallant Korean way.

She speaks better English than all of the ones I have met and she looks better too. I've had that verified by friends too. My woman rocks

The exception to the rule.

Students? Yikes. Koreans usually comprise the largest Asian minority at any decent educational institution outside of Korea, and they tend to travel in packs. If you do date, it'll probably have to be kept outside of their social circle.

Non-students? Yup. Especially the 30+ crowd and divorced women who don't return to Korea. Click your libido over to 'highly experimental mode' and go for broke. They will.

Not so here. I've met a handful of Korean girls over here recently and most are dating outside the race. I believe that many K-girls who study in the West do so (though obviously not entirely) due to a caucasian fetish. The same charge is made of white guys with yellow fever teaching in Asia.

I think in any culture, women quickly learn who are the alpha males. Add in:

Korean female university student abroad: Gets lots of attention from local males, local females compliment her a lot on her beautiful skin, her weight, her nice hair, her style. She's treated as smart, beautiful, and capable. Contrast this with always hearing from her family she's lazy, stupid, too fat.

Korean male university student: Goes from being the alpha male in his culture (usually first born, from a family with some money and status) to being largely perceived as a skinny pocket protector nerd. No one in the west recognizes his symbols of status like his Bean Pole outfit. He's unsure of his language ability, he feels the loss of status immensely. And then his Korean sisters are carrying on like whores! Oh my. It's far too much to take.

I think a Korean woman feels liberated in the west and a Korean male feels he's been knocked down several rungs in social status and grows frustrated at his loss.

Hmm...so they're like Charisma Women?

I wonder if there's a corresponding comic strip.

Back on her home planet of Korea, she was Fatty McAcne (Korea men in background: Pig!)

But when she landed on Planet Canada...

She became...CHARISMA WOMAN (white guys in the background: I'd hit it!)
