I dropped 33k to get from Bundang to Nowon the other night. I was hoping it would have been a little cheaper. How much you have you guys dropped on a fare? |

Over 60,000.
Cab ride to the Incheon airport.
This is actually a good story. I was vacationing in Korea VERY close to where I live now in the Daehangno area. I stayed homestay, and relied on my house family to find out about what bus to take to the airport. I woke up to catch my flight, and luckily their teen daughter went with me and even waited at the bus stop. We waited 30 minutes and the bus never came. She called her mom, who called somewhere to learn that the bus route had changed. I ended up borrowing money from them to take a cab so I could make my flight on time (I had run myself down to 15,000 won and there were no open ATMs at that time that I knew of in the area). They loaned me over 60,000 won -- this after paying them not much more than 60,000 for my homestay!
I returned to Korea months later, and returned there to pay them back. When I got there, the father answered the door and looked drunk. Busted planters were all over the floor, and the floor had a bunch of dry, sticky beer on it. I gave him the money, which made him smile, and left. I later found and called the old phone number left by the daughter, who said I shouldn't have given him the money because her parents were divorcing after her jobless father had beat her, her mom, and her mother-in-law. I never heard from them after that.
I remember that there was another guy staying there homestay with me. He was a uni teacher from Busan... kind of short, maybe with red hair and was from either Aussie or NZ. A nice guy. We'd guessed that the father was jobless, even though he said that was an architect.
It's so odd that I live so very close to that same spot where I first stayed in Korea... so many years later. |

20,000 won, two years ago. It was my birthday and I was at Once In A Blue Moon in Apgujeong until after the subway closed. I lived near Eungam station in Eunpyong Gu.
Expensive night, but the music was really good so it was worth it. |

No offense meant but it always makes me laugh at how cheap so many foriegners seem here.
I know so many people that would miss a night out because it would entail a 30,000 taxi and the meal costs more than a frigging kimbap.

Expensive is over 200,000 anything less is an average weekend back home for most people - so why not here...? |

Get in a Taxi late at night in Tokyo, drive 100m, see how much change you get out of KRW50,000. (Prize for the 1st person to point out they use Yen there). |

When I first arrived in Korea I was told to take a limousine from Incheon to Gimpo airport (connecting flight). I thought a limousine was a bit too classy so I took a regular taxi instead. Of course it turns out that limousine = limousine bus, not a big stretched car..
Anyway the taxi driver didn't use the meter and charged me 100,000won. I didn't know how much that was and didnt know what the going rate for taxis were anyway so I paid it. Was a bit more than it should have been I think.
That's actually my second most expensive taxi ride. My most expensive was from Seoul to the south coast. Cost 150,000 won plus about 20,000 won in tolls. We'd negotiated the price first. The taxi driver put the meter on also just so we could see how much it should cost.. was somewhere around 430,000won.. |

My coworker, still to this day, refuses to tell us how much he paid for an early morning taxi from Incheon to Jeonju. Any guesstimates? |

3 years ago some Korean high school girls didn't get on the bus to go back to the summer language program. So I had to take a taxi from Orange, CA to Pasedena and back. $300 skins plus I dropped a $50 on the guy for a tip.
If your school EVER asks you to chaperone kids on an overseas trip, go straight to the woodpile and break one of your legs with a piece of firewood so you don't have to go. |

KRW55,000 from Chang'won to Busan. Now, this was split between 5 people, so it wasn't so bad. Only problem is, one of us paid proportionately more than the others: he left his wallet with over KRW200,000 inside. |

50 late at night from Jongro to Suwon.
I don't consider anything under 30 to be expensive--especially if you're with a group. However, I haven't taken a taxi once in the past 3 months. |

Oh yeah, taxis are still damn cheap in Korea...cheaper than they should be.
I can take a ten minute ride here and it's only 2500-3000 won. That same ride is 200 yen in Japan ($20) and at least $10 in Canada. |

70,000 from somewhere woop woop to Seoul, he insisted on droping me in Itaewon where the other passenger was going then another cabbie tried to charge me 20,000 to Hongdae, I told him GFYS and paid 7,000.
Actually did pay 50 quid, Covent Garden to Motspur park in London. |

No offense taken. The cab was 20,000 won; the rest of the night was more expensive. No where approaching 200,000 won though...
True, I don't spend much when I go out, but I'd hardly call myself cheap- I spend between 500,000- 600,000 won per month on groceries, just for me! |
