I am considering starting a literary journal so that I have something to do at my desk while I am supposed to be teaching. If anybody is interested in joining me, contributing, editing, designing, reading or anything else please drop me a line. If there are people out there who are interested (and I know there are) let me know when a good time to get together is.

Damn Saddam is going to bump this message to the bottom really fast Sad

Sounds good. Is this something arranged over the internet? I need to get back into the writing swing of things and all...

All darn good questions. The answer is... I have no idea yet. I envision something grand and wonderful, 239 pages in full color, with nothing but the finest in art, poetry, fiction and criticism. Of course what we end up with will probably be a xeroxed and stapled, typo ridden mess. I am open to ideas of any kind. I decided that I needed to seize a web domain name, so I bought www.KLJournal. Now I just need something to put there. Anyone have experience with litmags? Or is everyone just a frustrated writer looking for a forum (like me)?

Korea Literary Journal? What'll it offer that Dave's doesn't already provide?

Good editing, for one.

That coming from an ex-journalist with two years of experience as a newspaper editor.

Focused themes, for another.

Weave threads rather than unravel them.

I volunteer to be on the board. Of directors, that is. Smile

Typos? Nuh uh, not in my house.

So you actually want to write something...now I see what you're getting at. If you need a place to discuss this in greater detail, I can arrange a section of an ezboard or something. Just to get it off its feet.

And I don't know how much I'd actually want to write about Korea itself, but I'm always up for editing. I don't have any professional experience with it, but I've got a natural affinity for it.

This is a fantastic response... between PMs and posts it looks like about 6 to 8 people with a variety of gifts are up for this. Certainly there are more of you out there.

As for what form this is going to take, the truth is, I don't know. I have worked on small magazines before but I have never tried to establish one. I sort of thought it would be nice to have a magazine devoted to quality writing (fiction, non-fiction, poetry) for expats or anyone else writing in English. I don't want to be pompous and say that I have a "mission statement" but the sad truth is that I sort of do... in my head. Of course it is flexible.

Right now I have a website http://www.kljournal.org that I am trying to get online in the next couple of days, and a list of names. Someone suggested a message board, or maybe just an mail list would work for now, as a way of sharing ideas. Anyone interested please email me at [email protected] and I will compile a list of names and addresses. And pass the word to anyone who is interested... the more the merrier. I will try and PM anyone who posted earlier.
