|
|
I'm thinking I might renew with mine but just for 6 months. If the Visa is 12 months long but the contract is 6 months long, do I need a letter of release to change employer after the contract expires? |

Many PS organizations won't let you do a 6 month contract. SMOE is one of them. Even if the teachers and school is cool with it (why lose a good teacher, right?) SMOE won't allow it. So what happens? People sign a 12 month contract and just quit after 6 months. |

I'm thinking of doing the same thing....but I didn't think it would be a problem. I can't just go to the immigration office and notify them that I changed jobs? Our visas are linked to only one job at a time? |

E-2 visas are. Unless you get a letter of release, you will have to leave the country and wait until the visa expires to get a new job. Many organizations, like SMOE, won't give letters of release. |

Renewals do not have to be locked into a full year.
IMMIGRATION will issue an extension of your period of sojourn for any term between 1 day and 1 year. 6 months is fine with immigration.
The problem lies with your school. Many public schools will NOT grant an extension / renewal for any period other than 1 year because of funding restrictions at the provincial and federal levels.
