I realize that I'm asking for a lot of shots from the peanut gallery for being a newbie. But I've been considering heading over to Asia to earn some cash and I've been lurking around the Korea english teacher boards for a little over a month now. Maybe I've been burned by the hostility show to me in the Saddam Hussein discussion, but between this board, KoreanESL, and English Spectrum, all you english teachers in Korea come across as complete a**holes. I wont name names, but if some of these people said to me in person what they say to each other online, I'd be knocking their teeth in. Is what I read the standard for english teachers, or am I just misinterpreting what I see?

Yep, youve nailed it. We're all cussin' ornery brawlers over here. Every night a bar fight. You'll feel right at home.

Come on over, it's a great place! I think it would be best if you didn't learn the language.

I think it really depends on the company you keep. If you don 't like certain people or their views, then obviously you won't hang out with them. There are many different personalities here, you just have to find out who you like.

Most importantly, don't take the boards seriously.

That's good advice. I've been doing the message board thing for a while, but I guess I wasn't ready for the in-your-face attitudes of some of the people here. I'm sorry if I came across as ready to brawl to some of you.

The beauty of a forum is you don't have to be all wishy washy and polite if you don't want to be. Some people are very direct. I'd like to think I am direct, why beat around the bush?

Also remember on the Internet people are usually nastier than in real life, as there is no face to put to the names...if you could call our nicks names.

So yeah don't take it seriously, most people don't, including me.

Deadman walking ... Deadman on the Block ... Deadman Walking ...

Seriously:

Remember not EVERY ESL instructor posts on this forum or any other.

Heck, some of the teachers here can't even read.
