Sure it's relative, but whatever. Don't complain about the poll. Just vote or don't vote.

After scroling down, all I can say is that I'm glad it's Saturday and I'm not at my public school job where the v.p. can see my monitor from his desk! Rolling Eyes

MODS!

Your poll is pretty stupid.

Most people say they can save about half of their monthly income. Most people seem to make around W2,200,000 a month. So for people who don't have to send money home to pay off college debts, the amount saved would be about W13,000,000 a year. 13 x 5 = 65

That's overly optimistic because people take trips home and go on vacations. A reasonable total for 5 years here would be down around W50,000,000.

The more I make, the more I spend. Saving money is ridiculous, 'cause you can't take it to your grave.

Even if you're cheap as hell (like me) you'll still only manage to save around $20,000/year. (Been here four months have 7,000,000 won, wowee.) About the only way to get past the first level of the poll is to work an extra job. You have to be a workoholic. A cheap workoholic. And possibly a criminal.

I secondly concur that your figures are not only stupid, but extraordinarily so.

I seem to be in the minority as usual on Dave's and find this a reasonable poll question.

I think saving $1000 US per month can be done easily. After 5 years, I think this is reasonable.

1. 60 x $1k = 60k
2. Interest on savings over 5 years = $6k
3. Refund of 5 years pension with employer match = $12k
4. 5 contract completion bonuses = $10k

How about $88k?

The absolute low end of the spectrum of the poll is nearly reasonable for normal E-2 visa holders that work only under those conditions. Of course not everyone falls into this category, but many that post on this site do. Your assessment of the savings plan is doable for sure.
