So, I can't PM anyone because I haven't posted 25 times(!), but I saw this link about new drug testing policies.

I don't smoke, but I lived with a bunch of stoners in college, so I'm worried that a hair drug test will test positive. Someone told me that even being around it can show up on a hair test. Does anyone know anything about this? Should I cut off my (pretty, long, red) hair? Please help. Will I still be tested for 'cannaboids' when I get to Korea in the summer? I've already taken a job... |
the "cannaboids" test has been dropped. |

| gwacheon's ok, i guess. it's not really in seoul; but it's not that far. it'll take u about 25 minutes to get to gangnam, which is a bit fun, half an hour to myeong-dong (shopping etc) and 45 minutes to hongdae (clubbing, bars, etc). seoul grand park's in gwacheon - there's a (slightly crappy) amusement park, a decent museum of contemporary art, a rose garden (i promise) and a big damn park. not an awful place, i imagine. |

It was officially dropped about 4 weeks ago.

Starting from Mar. 15 2008, the Ministry of Justice decided to leave out the cannabinoid check on a medical record certificate and exceptionally accept the criminal record certificate verified by his/her consular officer(s) in Korea.

It is the home of the federal government complex.
You have most/all the amenities of Seoul and are close enough that the short bus/subway hop into the big city won't kill you and a cab ride home won't break the bank. |

thanks!
i realized that i'm actually going to live in Beomgye???
is it a nice place?
this might be a silly question, but say i wanted to take a taxi home at night, how much would that cost? my korean friends said that sometimes the taxi drivers will charge you more or not drive you b/c you live in gyeonggi province. is there any truth to that? |

| dude i lived in beomgye. it's a bit of a ways out, and if u're not near the station, it's going to take u ages to get anywhere. expect travel times of around an hour to a lot of places in seoul. anyang city isn't bad, though, and there are a few parks and stuff around the place (anyang central park, if i remember correctly, is there in beomgye, or perhaps p'yeongch'on). there's also a couple of big arse bathhouses out that way, if u're into that sort of thing. u will be out in the sticks tho, really. |

I am a past 50 woman who will be arriving in Korea in less than a month to teach at a public school north of Seoul. I haven't posted enough to pm you, but would really appreciate an opportunity to talk to you about your experiences. I've just come down with a case of nervousness!
Thanks.

| ive taken a cab home from itaewon to pyeongchon (which is one subway stop from beomgye) it has cost $50 on a bad night, $17 on a good one. the beomgye/pyeongchon area is really nice, but it does take 45min to an hour to get to places in seoul whilst riding the subway. |

IF you are on an E2 it is NOT legal.
Find a new employer. |

Can anyone give me information on Kims-Korea?
I was sent a contract to review, and returned about 20 questions that were not covered on the contract. I noticed many misspelled words on the contract and that concerned me. Has anyone dealt with them in the past?
I am new.
Thank you, |

Both my husband I and would like to teach in Korea. so far most of the info/pictures/ comments I have seen and read are from people a lot younger than we are. Are there 'older' people who could let us know whether we would have any success in applying for positions. We are in our late 50s - and, for you younger ones, that is just the beginning!!
Please pm me as I have not had 25 posts. |

I am over 50 and doing quite well. Lots of available positions for us "older types" in the public school system. There is also better pay and benefits and much less change of getting screwed in the process.
Look for a public school instead of a hakwon. |
