Where are all the Korean people? This forum seems like it might have better balance, and more positive energy if Korean people would start posting too. In fact, I want to hear the Korean perspective on a lot of these issues.
This isn't an ESL teacher's only zone, Koreans are welcome to post. I would actually like to hear from some Koreans. This forum is just ALL westerners posting, so it tends to be a safe haven for people to take the venting and complaining a little too far. I am guilty of this too i'll admit.
Maybe if some cool Korean people started posting here. It would create more positive energy, and a more pro-Korean vibe. It would show that Koreans and westerners can mix in harmony. Right now, the lack of Koreans here, to me, shows a certain level of segregation. And I think it might send the signal to some Dave's posters that it is indeed an "us and them" culture here.
I am sure Koreans read this forum. Dave's has been mentioned in major newspapers here. Why aren't you all posting here too? Let's bring it all together here.... |

I'm talking about native Koreans who speak and write English well.
I know for a fact that lots of them check this site out. I find it wierd that none of them post. I guess they are all just observing the spectacle. |

Most native Koreans who frequent Dave's are probably just curious about foreigners' views of Korea and might be too shy to post. Not only that, they'd have to complete Dave's approval process in order to post here, right? |

Who was that one guy on here a few months ago? DanielKim or some name like that? That guy was entertaining. He'd have these posts that would anger a lot of the people on here. I miss that dude. |

Quit trying to stir up shit! I don't know why any native Korean would post on here when all they'd be doing is opening themselves up to getting ridiculed and hated on by the annoying morons on this board who attack every poster they disagree with (you know who you are). Then there are those who argue with everyone and profess to know more about Korea, Koreans and Korean culture than anyone else cuz their girlfriend is Korean or because they've been living here a few years. And then there are those who have nothing better to do but stalk people that they don't like.

OP, your intention's quite admirable. I do feel there are lots of barriers, walls, bubbles and "us vs. them" attitude here while I understand it's somewhat unavoidable and rather natural. What typically happens so often here is... when complex things are going on among Koreans, it suddenly gets summed up to "these Koreans....blah blah". If you were Korean, you wouldn't go around labelling Koreans. Instead, you would just oppose other people (yeah, they are Koreans, too) who have ideas that you don't agree with.
By the way, although some Korean netizens might have read translations of random threads here, I don't think there are that many native Koreans who are aware of this forum and care to read and even post here as a routine. I actually try to spend less time on this forum.

Sorry. I wasn't to sure. Which brings a question to mind: where does one draw the line for oneself when it comes down to 'nativeness' vs. 'gyoponess'? How does one self-identify and why? |

Nah, his intentions aren't admirable at all. Look at the way he's going after me in this other thread about gyopos. OP is just another nut case trying to start trouble. I rest my case. |

There is nothing stopping them at the end of the day. After all, it isn't like you have to provide a passport scan or a national ID number to post here. |

Except the blatantly anti-Korean attitude that exists on here. There are posters who are so bitter that they have repeatedly said that they will never buy a Korean product or mistreat Koreans when they see them in their own country. |

Funny thing is, my Korean ex-gf used to see me surf the threads and post up here and sometimes when she was at work, she would come to this site to see what I posted and what kind of responses I would get. There were times when she would read something on these boards and ask questions like; "Do most foreigners think that way about (blah-blah)?"
The only thing I could do was shrug my shoulders and say, "Hey! That's on them. I have no idea what every foreigner is thinking......" But it becomes an interesting conversation piece at times.......
She tried to get a user name once so she can post here, she thought it would be a cool way to practice her English......but the MODs never replied to her...........good thing |

This board isn't the most welcoming for Koreans; in my opinion it's pretty hostile. There is a lot of "oh, it's because she or he is Korean," as though that is suppose to justify their response merely because the Korean poster has disagreed with certain ideas, or has simply defended Korea.
How do you know that there aren't more Korean posters than there are already? Do you suppose that they all carry a badge that says "I am Korean"?
But I do see the OP's good intensions. Perhaps having more Korean people on this board would lessen the extremist view of Korea. |

Hardly........
I think it would provoke some people to become more extreme in their views.
Also, as anyone (specifically a non-Korean) ever tried to post on the Korean message boards on Daum or Naver?
I think you need a Korean ID number to register for those. Isn't that a kind of discrimination also? |
