Was wondering if anyone teaching abroad in Seoul used a maid service and if so might be able to give me a general idea for cost and what service they do like dishes, laundry, sweeping, or whatnot.

Yep, I call it "marriage" and it costs plenty.
It's nice though, I haven't washed a dish or cleaned the toilets or cooked anything in ten years!

WHile that does sounds like a sweet deal, looking for a bit more short term here haha.
BUT.... I will take it under consideration haha.

Yes, maid service is fairly common. I've heard W20,000-W25,000 an hour. They do dishes, mop the floor, clean the bathroom...the usual.
I forgot: Some maid services, you have to join a 'company' and pay a yearly fee, plus the hourly rate.

no clue on price.. but I think it's cheap...
problem is, I have heard some horror stories about ajummas breaking things and washing the wrong thing. One girl I know had her leather jacket tossed in the wash and came out looking like total ass. |

Just remembered...if you can find the Hanam supermarket in Hanam dong - there's a bulletin board right outside the main entrance with hundreds of listings for maids from the Philippines. |

Thats about right, in my experience. I pay my ajumma 25000 for about 3 or 4 hours, twice a week. I've employed the same person for over 6 years now. She's totally honest & nice. She's not the most thorough cleaner & I'm easy-going but if I point out an extra task I'd like done she's all over it. If her day falls on a holiday I give it to her off & pay her anyway. She's helped me through a couple moves, boxing everything up & helping unpack on her own time. Cooking includes shopping, & she's learned my preferences & my vegetarian ways. My cats like her. I've taught both her kids in school too.
Dont know what I'd do without her now. |

we've had a phillippina for 2 years now, comes in once/week does a wonderful job. pay her 35k/week. when we are on vacation she comes and waters the plants, checks on things
when we go home it will be one thing we will actually miss about this place. not many of our friends back home have a cleaning lady they arent married to |

This is something I actually could really use as well. If anyone knows a pretty cheap one in Cheong-ju (my apartment is tiny), I'd really appreciate it. I asked my students and they said 50,000 won, which is a little pricey given the size of my apartment. |

Is there an ironing service or something. All of my stuff has been sitting in Seoul for the last 2 weeks in space bags and I was hoping I could send it all out to get ironed. Theres like 202 pounds of it plus the stuff I still have here so I can't iron or steam all of it, it would take weeks. I will be in Seocho-dong. Do they have this kind of service in SK??? |

Yeah, it's called a dry cleaner/laundry service just like home. They are everywhere. I wouldn't expect it to be too cheap though. |
