If you like ska then you should check out Kingston Rudie Ska, they play at Skunks or wherever along with other Korean ska bands. Nothing groundbreaking but it's all there is here. |
Yer Ive seen them, actually was going to try out for their singing spot when they started but I got too chicken and never turned up. |

I think that This Is England captured it pretty well. You have a bunch of non-racist, ska/reggae loving skins, and then some racists with a political agenda come along an spout off their hatemongering and ruin it.
The other movies don't really show the non-racist side to skinhead (the side that I grew up with). Every now and then racist skinheads would pop up at shows or non-racist skins would become Nazis or WP or whatever.
Romperstomper was good--that 20 minute fight scene was incredible.
American History X was also good, but I don't think they got the look quite down with Edward Furlong's character, and how many Nazi skinhead gangs do you think hang around basketball courts and play ball with black people and BEAT THEM AT BASKETBALL!?
Is there much of a skinhead/ska/punk scene in Korea? If so, I'd definitely be down. I'm used to NYC where we've had all this stuff for years. |

as for favorite Oi songs
Last Resort - Violence in Our Minds
4 Skins - ACAB
Blitz - Warriors
The Templars - (I think it's self-titled, about knights or something)
Combat 84 - Face the Aggression
Oxblood - anything
Skrewdriver - Anti-Social (before they were outright racists)
Youth Defense League - Skinheads '88 (dunno if they ever came out of the Nazi Closet or if they were non-racist)
The Press - Friday 5pm |

Trivia time.....Who sang "Return of the Ugly"? While we've shifted to the rudie side of the spectrum.
No Googling either.
1. Bad Brains
2. Bad Manners
3. Bad Religion
Also to add, I do think that the US ruined the skinhead "movement". I just never took any of them to serious. SHARPS for that matter were/ are a waste of time also. We had an oi band in Atlanta called the Anti-Heros and Joe was a jew (guitar) So it was funny to see the WP crowd at their shows. I think there were only 6 of them at the time. Wanna see some funny stuff go to Skunks on the weekend and see the Korean "skins". (No harm intended Jonghee) RUX is a good band.

Bad Manners. I actually saw them recently. They played in the States in March. Buster Bloodvessel's old as hell, but still able to sing and do his thing |

I saw Bad Manners in 1984 in Toronto Larry's Hideaway. I also saw
The English Beat twice in the eighties. One time they played with Bow Wow Wow. I saw The Angelic Upstarts at the 100 club in London. I also saw " The Exploited. I saw 999 too. |

went with made in britain, why? american history x is not so much about skins as such, rather it deals with racism.
this is england was an ace movie, but shane meadows tends to make things rather unrealistic- i.e why the hell would a bunch of older skinds want to hang out with a kid- nonetheless a great movie and really does justice to recapturing that 80s feel of depression and gloom
made in britain- tim roth rocks in this, personification of evil better than al pacino, love alan clarkes movies, it doesnt show a flashback of a time, it was a low budget simple movie for its time, great movie |

Also skins were not listening to The Toots and Maytals in 1984. It would have been more realistic to Play Strength through Oi. I never understood that older fat man with the flat cap he really didn't seem to fit. |

Actually the older guy coming out of prison was good at showing the whole Jekyl and Hyde style personality. I've met quite a few like that.

are there a few ska fans out there? I would say I have the greatest ska collection in KOrea. I have been a solid supporter for 20 years...old school, not skapunk |
I have to bump this ancient thread because of bundangbabo's claim here. Greatest ska collection in Korea? Move aside. (unless you have a ton of vinyl with you)
Also, American History X and Romper Stomper are bullshit that have done more to help white supremacist recruitment than to caution people about the retardation of white power. |
