The reason that the topic isn't discussed more thoughtfully, is, as soon as someone attempts to do so, someone labels that person anti-semitic and starts in with the ad hominem and threats of a ban.

Sorry I missed that thread. Seems like you're one of the few knowledgeable ones on the subject. Too bad the thread only lasted 2 pages.

Be careful, you might get banned for anti-semitism.
Many of the top Nazi generals were Jewish.

Let's keep people's mothers out of this, shall we? I don't want to comment on politics, but having some Jewish ancestry doesn't make someone Jewish per se if one doesn't identify as such. Is this where beer bottles start flying? |

This might be of interest for those who think that Finklestein was motivated by sheer wickedness to write about what he calls The Holocaust Industry
Do note that the old woman's statement is incorrect - she says "You claim that the survivors are exploiting the Germans" - actually, he doesn't accuse the survivors of doing any such thing. Rather he claims certain 'hucksters' are doing it pretending to do so on behalf of the survivors. But anyway...his answer is relevant to this thread.
Start at 2.30 (before that it is intolerably dull to watch).

| Not really. Not with all the hotheads who post here, that's true. But it's a shame that such an interesting topic is not being discussed more thoughtfully. |
Have to agree with BB on this issue. |

I've heard of it, but I have not yet time to watch. Maybe when my kids turn 18...? Sigh. |

For fun, here's a clip of him that's doing the rounds at the moment - some of it is featured in that docu, I do believe...

It's quite embarrassing for Canada. He's left unmolested on American, Swedish, British, Dutch campuses but in Canada his lectures are a shouting match with women crying etc. Though not in Alberta. Ontario is crazy. |

Are you referring to the scene where the woman seems to be on the verge of tears when criticizing him for comparing Israelis to Nazis, and then seems to have a total breakdown when he fires back at her with an extended monologue about his reasons for doing so?
What got me about that scene was that the woman specifically said that he shouldn't reference Nazis because "there are people here today who are German". As if the poor downtrodden Germans are the people we need to be most senstive towards. |

It was bizarre. She completely melted down. |

Am I the only one who finds it tiresome that when BB is confronted with something in opposition to her views, she constantly responds with:
"My babies are too hungry right now."
"I have to get up for work soon."
"I'm deep in the midst of a world-shattering thesis, and my babies are hungry so I'll get back to you later."
Why even bother to post if it's such a trial for you? |
