Help?!

I'm putting together a list of famous people with western names to play a game - or rather numerous games - of Who Am I? with my middle-school-aged class of students.

Do they know who Madonna is? Mariah Carey? Who are famous western women for Korean kids of this age, apart from Angelina Jolie? Who are 'famous' men apart from George Bush and Brad Pitt?

I'd need a list of about 20 people, preferably balanced with women and men.

So far:

women Angelina Jolie men Brad Pitt George Bush

Does it have to be real people? Can it be movie and cartoon characters too? How about people who are dead?

Here's a few I've used with uni students and adults.

Men
David Beckham, Leonardo DeCaprio, Eminem, Micheal Jackson, Harry Potter, Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden, Micheal Jordan, Abe Lincoln, Adolf Hitler, Santa Claus, Bill Gates

Women
Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Juliet (of 'Romeo and' fame), Sarah Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts

Snoopy, Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Gollum, Shrek and Fiona are also good if you're including cartoon characters.

Don't include the scum Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. How about Carl Rove, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfield? Donald Trump?

MacArthur

Gandhi

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Anton Apollo Ohno

Wayne Rooney

Michael Jordan

Michael Jackson

Steven Spielberg

Heins Ward

Will Smith

Mother Teresa

Hope this helps. I used these in a similar game in a middle school, and although the spelling was hilarious "Steban Spillbug" they knew who most these folks were/are.

There is an easier way to go about this. Since you need names that the students recognize, why not write categories of jobs on the board...Actors, Actresses, Singers, Political leaders, Scientists, Artists....and ask them to supply the names.

I play the same game with my low level students and do it that way. It saves me a lot of work and headache.

I also play the game more than one time...once with living people so they practice present tense and again later with dead people so they have to use past tense.
