Not one of your 3 examples qualifies as racism.

That's true but you shouldn't really say that to him. It's kind of like waking a sleep walker up when he's walking on a 9th floor ledge. They could lose their balance and hurt themselves. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss.

Rules requiring foreigners to pay more than koreans for the same services are purely imaginary.

How many years in Korea? Five or more? And still raging and whining against culture shock and yet with absolutely no plan of going home, probably ever. You can have all this and much more for $25,000 per year. All in a day's work in the glamorous, exotic overseas adventures of the unemployable TEFL chump.

But none of those things- which are all racially motivated - would ever happen to a Korean person. What then is your definition of racism?

Sure, they are all minor things..but a 101 "minor things", each having the common denominator of being tinged with a hint of racism...add up.

I was in my local macdonalds yesterday and i noticed the girl behind the counter had cut her hair...I told her in korean that id noticed her hair and it looked nice...Was that racially motivated too? Was it racism?

In fact even worse racism happens in Canada obviously.

So its not racism.

what do you expect?

you moved to a homogeneous nation. its only natural that some people in Korea are going to find it "odd or strange" that a foreigner is in there country. I dont see why this comes as a huge suprise.

1. This happens in every country. A couple walking down the street will get wolf-whistles, shouts, cheers etc. How is this racist? If a Canadian did this to you in Canada, I bet you'd love it.

2. Common sense. Ever heard of credit checks? If you have a bad credit score, deposits and suchlike will be higher. Obviously our credit rating here sucks, so therefore we may have to pay a higher deposit. Whats the problem? It's just a deposit.

3. I won't even bother with anything children say. Children are little shits. It's not racism though.

All non-aryans must wear a star or triangle when out in public. Don't make a fuss.

Koreans may be pretty bad at dealing with people who are different, but your skin doesn't have to be very thick to ignore it. If you're a white person from Kansas, maybe you're not used to being different. If you're a Native American from Newark, odds are you've got all the training you need to get by just fine in Korea. Hell, even in Atlanta I sometimes felt very, very different for being a white kid from the suburbs.

People stare sometimes. Occasionally they even shout "Nice to meet you" from across the street. Every once in a while you might even get a nasty look. But it's not the end of the world.

And besides. If you make a point to count all the Korean people you pass who ignore you, you'll find the number is much higher.
