I have to do my own public HS's 'required' summer camp for 2 weeks at the beginning of August.

My office director has said I'd be getting my basic over-time wage for the duration i.e. 20,000 p/h, but I found out today that all of the Korean teachers are getting 30,000 p/h for doing the same, yet less imaginative work. On the other hand, I know that one of my friends has to do their HS's camp for no extra wages.

Is this fair/right? Or should I just be grateful for getting something extra for my time?

I'd really like to compare some different situations.

20,000 p/h? That sucks. Thank Christ my school isn't asking the foreigners to do summer camp this year. 6 weeks straight vacation. I'd rather go without the extra money.

I got nothing in winter..and I'm getting nothing in summer. OH WAIT...I am getting something.....

I get to do a district camp too! So that's 2 summer camps!! All for free...yippee...

I'm getting 20 000 an hour. Two week camp. Total for both weeks 1 million won. That's on top of my usual salary. Best thing is, one week middle school, one week elementary. It's all my students as well. Easy!

That's great if you're getting paid 20,000 an hour more on top of your salary just for working somewhere else other than your main school. They might be paying that teacher getting this an extra 2 million won for a month if it's 5 teaching hours a day for 5 days a week for a total of 4.2 million won. That's good money. Shoot, I'd take it if offered.

Why should we expect more pay for teaching at a camp instead of our main school if not doing both jobs each day? I don't understand how some PS teachers are getting this and others are not. Some are working camps for regular salary, some are getting 20,000 won an hour extra on top of salary, some are getting 30,000 won per hour, some are taking 6 straight weeks off, and some are getting nothing extra, but are taking 2 weeks of vacation. Why is there no consistency in the EPIK program?

As far as I know many of are getting nothing extra in money or vacation time, but you never know everything until it happens so I can't really say for sure as this is my 1st time doing a Summer camp and I'm new to the district. I understand we're over flowing with money right now as Korean teachers have stated that recently. Can we say some of you are going to be exceptionally happy campers this year?

3 weeks 60 classes and 0 extra pay. they can find a new teacher next year.

I'll be doing camps for 4 different public schools in my small city.
Pay ranges from 20000 to 30000.

One week of camp that the Korean teachers have to do too. Three classes a day except the first day one class is orientation and the final day is olympics and wind up.
So I have I have 11 40 minute lessons to do by myself and help out with the rest. I'm pretty happy to do that.
The Korean teachers are getting extra pay but the budget only allows for them (and me by default) to do one week of camp... boohoo

I voted nothing, but actually I don't know. I'm expecting nothing. I would be delighted if I get paid, but I'm not expecting it.

GEPIK contracts say the camp is part of our duties and we can't expect any extra on top of that...although there may be a few GEPIKers who get extra.

Yeah...there doesn't seem to be any real consistency.

On the flip side it's only two weeks and I don't have to sit in the classroom the rest of the time...so you lose some, you win some.

Yeah, no pay is in the contract, but so is 15 sick days. How well do you get along with your school, and do you want to stay there for another year?

I get 40,000 per hour, and if the specific camp doesn't pay that, it pays 30,000. It's EPIK, not GEPIK.

Doesn't matter for you anyway, because next year you'll be out of work unless you sell yourself down to 1.6M base salary like the frat boys they are going to ship over here for GEPIK. They'll probably do the camp for a case of beer.
