I was at the spa this weekend. While sitting in the hot pool with a Korean guy this ajoshi comes up and says something stern to the guy and walks away. The Korean guy in the pool told me that the ajoshi didn't want to sit in the hot pool with an waygook because I might have some disease (it didn't seem to matter that he knowingly dipped into the adjacent pool which I had sat in for about 30 minutes prior). I laughed and just dismissed it (I'm used to it). I guess the guy was trying to expain to save face and he eventually got off on the topic of Korean "Pure blood". I know all about this misbelief having spent the last three years here. So after explaining all that he also said that many Korean rural dwellers were marrying Filipina and Vienamese women so much that, in his hometown nearly 25% of all the elemetary students are mixed ethnicity. I then brought up how this would eventually throw a wrench in the concept of "Pure Joseon Dynasty blood" but he said that it wouldn't matter. It was ok because the children were born into Korean citizneship. So after a period of contemplation I have come to the following conclusion. Koreans really don't care if the "blood line" gets contaminated as long as the children are legitimate citizens and look enough Asian/Korean to pass as the "real thing" and thus allow everyone to perpetuate the myth. |

of course. There's no such thing as pure blood. It's all about propagating myths you know deep deep down are false to give the maniacal a reason to hate others or a distraction for the downtrodden, a scapegoat. Do it long enough and it becomes a part of some people's thinking in spite of its harm to the victims, its prevention of solidarity, and scientific evidence to the contrary.
Some fun facts on "race":
3 of the main four branches of Caucasian ancestry have Semitic origin.
Many white Europeans have about 5% "sub-saharan" negro blood. % can be higher or lower by chance and by closeness to the Mediterranean.
There is (was?) Scandinavian blood in the gene pool of East Canadian Amerindians.
The Japanese are a hodge-podge of Siberian tribes, other Mongolian-like people and even some Austronesians.
The south Chinese are different-looking from Beijing area Han, but still bear resemblance with Manchus a race that was deemed foreign. The main differences were cultural. Manchus and Chinese are no more dissimilar in appearance than an alpine Italian and a Sicilian.
The Japanese imperial line was founded by Korean horsemen who conquered the place almost 1500 (?) years ago.
Ancient Egypt and Rome were very multi-racial. The only distinctions were cultural or geographical or linguistic.
Merely believing in something like "race" to begin with is delusional. There will always be people like this. Remember WASPs not marrying outside the blood lines. Well some of the Irish were co-opted into the WASP circle and are now "okay." Better yet, let's discuss the fact that the English are as much Celtic as they are Saxon. Won't hear about that very much. |

I picked this off another thread I started about this topic a while back:
From a wiki page:
Quote: |
Koreans tend to equate nationality or citizenship with membership in a single, homogeneous ethnic group or "race" (minjok, in Korean). A common language and culture also are viewed as important elements in Korean identity. The idea of multiracial or multiethnic nations, like India or the United States, strikes many Koreans as odd or even contradictory. |

Koreans were conquored by the mongolians 700 years ago. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of their blood mixed in then. |

Hehe lots of evidence points to Koreans being a mixed race (who isn't?) but the only one I can remember from classes is the 몽골 반점! Translated literally, it means Mongolian.. spot. Right above the bottom er, crack, lots of Koreans have these spots that look like bruises. We're told that it's proof that we've got Mongolian ancestors. And last names like 감(甘) are from Mongol as well.. |

I just thought that it was quite interesting that while generally the Koreans treat and think of Filipinas and Thais, etc like dirt, that it's "OK" if Koreans marry them because their kids wll be Korean citizens and "look" like Asians. What I interpreted this as was him basically saying "What is a violation of the "Pure Joseon bloodline" is when a Korean marries a white westerner." This is of course with full knowledge that Korean women have plastic surgery to make their stubby noses more pointed and bleach their skin white so they'll look more western. |

There is an easy solution. I think DNA testing companies should try to advertise here in Korea by offering a haplotype test which could tell every Korean just exactly what they are: a rich mixture of Manchu, Han Chinese, Mongol, Aboriginal, and maybe even Arab.

This will end the mystery and close the book on this "pure-blood" silliness. |

This observation kind of correlates with the sexual attitude here. When I first arrived, I was under some sortof illusion that I was surrounded by 19th century moralists; the sort who have to have a tent surrounding them in order to go into the ocean whilst maintaining their female dignity.
Within a few days I had then begun to notice the love motels, the *beep* vouchers on the pavement, the statistic relating to Korean divorce rates (3rd greatest in the economically developed world.) Then I realised...they dont give a *beep* whatactually goes on, what the reality is, as long as the illusion is maintained and the image works for them. This attitude runs throughout Korean society and even though I rationally understand it, I'll never really understand it.
It's really just a matter of humouring them, its a cultural quirk, just go along with the bullshit, hey, *beep* it, even believe it if you want, because the fact is it will make your stay here a lot smoother if you do. It kind of reminds when I pinged that the only way to deal with a Korean boss is to smile, nod and say'yes' over and over, then just do what you were doing before; it's all a facade. |

Who didn't conquer the Koreans at some point or another? They've been conquered and oppressed by many countries. Their genes must be a veritable soup by now. The bastard children of Asia. |

Most brits know this and couldn't give a shite either way. A lot of them even dig the whole celtic thing actually. Where do you get your ideas from?
And where the hell is Komeritroll...? He MUST be on vacation, there's no WAY IN HELL he'd usually let a juicy thread like this slip through his contentious, hateful, twisted little fingers.... |

All Koreans are pure-blood. They are the direct descendants of the son of the king of heaven and a bear that became a woman after eating only onions for 20 days. |

The National Geographic Society already does it:
https://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/participate.html
A few years ago, I did it for my son. With a male, they trace back down the Y-chromosome (paternal) line; with a female, they trace back down the mitochondrial DNA (maternal) line. |
