Why wouldn't a general have permission to shoot to kill??? Its one of the highest ranks there is.

I would have thought a general of the opposite side would be the first target to aim for. cut off the monsters head..

My guess is he's being deliberately obtuse.

And the nork soldiers shot her twice in the "backside" and she died? From gunshot wounds to her ass? Damn, I thought that didn't happen (but I'm certainly no battlefield medic).

As a well-armed redneck in the States, I'm a little shocked by the idea that people seem to think that it's ok to shoot sombody "just trying to stop" them or something like that. I realize that on tv the cops can just pop somebody in the leg and then slap the cuffs on them. Unfortunately, guns don't work like that. The first thing they'll teach you in any firearms safety course anywhere is that you don't even point a gun a something unless you want it to die.

Thank-you.

The way a lot of people talk it seems they live in a TV world where guns just make neat little puncture wounds that won't do any serious damage unless they hit a major organ or are using at least .45 bullets or something.

My guess would be "defector". In such a case it would definitely be the highest priority to shoot your way DOWN the ranks to minimise the damage.

Mt. Kumgang Shooting Story Changes

Hyundai Asan president Yoon Man-joon briefs reporters at his company headquarters in Gye-dong, Seoul on Wednesday after returning from a four-day trip to North Korea to investigate the fatal shooting of a South Korean woman by a North Korean soldier.

Wednesday saw some corrections to the early account of the killing of a South Korean tourist at the Mt. Kumgang resort area in North Korea. The initial report by Hyundai Asan, the South Korean operator of tours to Mt. Kumgang, of the time of Park Wang-ja's departure from the hotel has been changed, and North Korea has also reportedly reversed its earlier statement of the time when a soldier spotted her in a restricted area nearby. The details were given in a press conference at Hyundai Asan's headquarters in Gye-dong, Seoul on Wednesday by the firms president Yoon Man-joon. Yoon said he was told by officials of the North's Guidance Bureau for Comprehensive Development of Scenic Spots, Asan's partner in North Korea, that Park was first spotted by a North Korean soldier at a point about 800m north of the fence that demarcates the off-limits area, and that the soldier fired a total of four shots, including a warning shot.

Initially, the North said she had been spotted 1,200 m north of the fence and the soldier fired two warning shots. South Korean tourists who were nearby at the time of the incident have consistently testified that the shooting took place around 5:20 a.m. last Friday and they heard only two shots. The new account is unlikely to satisfy doubters of North Koreas version.

After checking the hotel's CCTV tape, Asan staff confirmed that Park left the hotel at 4:18 a.m., not 4:31 a.m. as was previously believed, Yoon said. The time difference came because the CCTV's inbuilt clock was 12 minutes and 50 seconds fast."

Yoon added Park was shot and fell to the ground 300 m from the safety fence, not 200 m as initially reported.

He also estimated that the shooting took place "between 4:55 and 5 a.m.," and not at 4:50 a.m. as initially reported, or at 5 a.m. as the North said last Saturday.

Yoon said the reason for the shooting given was that Park turned back and ran away even after she was ordered three times to halt by the North Korean soldier. I heard that the soldier, as he was running on the sandy beach, had difficulty catching up with Park, who was running on the hardened ground in the area, so he finally aimed his gun and fired three shots at her."

Some differences in the accounts, he said, were due to the original report about the distances being made based on visual measurement by North Korean officials and Hyundai Asan staffers, without taking accurate measurements.

After reading all this, I blame Hyundai Asan. Not putting up clearly marked barriers or warning signs. Looks like another half assed effort to me.

Hyundai is only running the tours (probably at a loss) so they can get their foot in the door of North Korea. When North Korea finally collapses they will be in there like a dirty shirt gobbling up land.

That being said, North Korea is a despicable despotic country. Anyone who goes on these tours should be ashamed of themselves. Kim Jong Il won't get a red cent from me. Westerners bragging about going there to get the stamp in their passports are morally bankrupt.

I blame the guy who put a bullet in her back, and his chain of command (all the way to 김정일).
Hyundai Asan didn't shoot anyone.

But I agree no one should visit North Korea. It is a despicable despotic country. We also should do everything we can to ensure his government falls ASAP.

I've never been to NK, but those who have tell me you DONT get your passport stamped, as it makes other, civilized countries uncomfortable that you've visited. They just staple a card to your passport and take it when you go.

Yes, standing orders for guards.
