|
|
I was just wondering if there are any bands (foreign or Korean) that are looking for a place to play. I think its nice to see bands live in Korea...one of the things I miss (along with good cheese) from being here in Korea. A bar in Bucheon is opening up wanting to feature bands on its stage. Send me a message if you're interested.
Thanks

Does it matter what kind of bands? Do you have to pay any kind of rent? |

I know a ton of bands but can't say for certain who would go to the effort of playing in a new venue. There used to be a punk label from Bupyeong which I think is pretty close to Bucheon, but they all moved to Seoul. |

We are talking to a band to come and play from Cheongju August 9th, who are quite popular...they played at the Mudfestival this past Saturday. Depending on the quality of the band will determine how many "benefits" we give them. I'm not sure what is meant by rent (if that's a code word), but if it means bands paying to play, obviously not, if it means something else, look at the previous sentence. It would be great to get as many bands coming through the bar as possible. If bands only play in Seoul, look at it as a way to reach out to potential fans outside of Seoul. Style doesn't necessarily matter, but I heard a heavy band playing at another bar, and most people weren't into it because of the loud noise...but no particular style is required. |

Get RUX, Cockcrasher, Couch and Shorty Cat to go play in your dive and give them all "benefits". |

Rux, Cockrasher, and Couch are kind of lazy these days, and Shorty Cat recently broke up. A place to start looking, and to contact most of these bands, is through this page:
http://www.myspace.com/koreanpunks
They are all talented, but might be a little too heavy for your club.
Pay-to-play clubs are the standard in Hongdae, so maybe there'll be a bunch of bands interested in giving your club a try. I'll pass this information along. |

Well, they're all punk, but there's still a fair amount of variety between Galaxy Express and Captain Bootbois and Gukdo. |

My first Korean punk CD was a Spikey Brats and 99Anger( before the move to Canada then back) I think the most of the Spikey Brats went in the army. I guess Suck Stuff is still around even without Paul. I dont know, I rarely go to shows anymore. Jesse's gone, Fat Eric's gone, Shorty Cat broke up. Boo Hoo |

I'm guessing you mean a Spiky Brats CD and a 99Anger CD.
Suck Stuff is putting out a new CD soon (with the hideous name "New Classics"), but I haven't seen them since Paul left. Well, except for when he came back a couple weeks ago and played a reunion show with them. |
