So, we're dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's on my new contract at the moment and there appears to be a bit of a problem in respect of the the EPIK multiple school allowance i.e. the extra 100,000 per month for teaching at two schools.

Now, my previous contract didn't stipulate this and as this is my first year out here, I was unaware that multiple school allowances existed until I heard about it on Dave's a few months ago. So, I get the new EPIK contract and it states quite clearly that if you teach at two school then you'll get an additional 100,000. So I mention this to my handler who then gets on the phone to my CT at my other school and asks him to sort it out. About an hour later he calls back and says that he's spoken to the local county education office who've informed him that "there isn't enough money in this years budget to pay it".

This obviously sounds like a croc of 5hit and even if it is true and they really have spunked this years cash, it's their problem and not mine. The local area office also said that no other FTs in the area get this additional allowance. To the best of my knowledge, there's only one other FT who teaches at two schools in my area (he'll know who he is) and he doesn't get the allowance.

So, what to do? I've a very harmonious relationship with my school and this issue aside, I've had no problems with them whatsoever this past year. I appreciate that this isn't my CT/handlers fault, rather it's the person at the local area office. Also, it does state on my contract:

Article 7.2 Employer may designate multiple work places for employee.

Any thoughts?

I don't understand the problem. If your contract states that you will be paid extra for working at different schools, then you should get that money. It's illegal for them to refuse. I'm gonna start working for EPIK too (my 1st year). I hope I don't have to deal with crap like this.

I teach at four schools and if they decided to not pay me the multiple school allowance, I would be out the door.

agreed. I'm not with EPIK but I do work at 2 rural schools and I do get extra pay. There's always money in the budget. They just dont want to give it to you. Go higher up with someone in EPIK.

and you dont have enough time in your day to go to their school.

Absolute BS from the education office. Does the person there speak english? Maybe get the details for their boss and go over their head.

Do not let them get away with that.
Also i think its an extra 100,000 per extra school.

Too bad, so sad. Not your problem.

This obviously sounds like a croc of 5hit and even if it is true and they really have spunked this years cash, it's their problem and not mine. The local area office also said that no other FTs in the area get this additional allowance.

Again, NYP. You are entitled to this by contract.

To the best of my knowledge, there's only one other FT who teaches at two schools in my area (he'll know who he is) and he doesn't get the allowance.

If he's OK with that, then that's fine. It's irrelevant when it comes to you though.

It doesn't matter about the budget. If your contract says you get extra money, you get extra money.

Would you let them get away with not paying your salary because "there isn't enough money in the budget" ? Forget that noise. Call Wenise or Denise and if you don't get a satisfactory answer go higher. And make 100% sure BOTH schools know you are doing this as well as the local area office.

It's okay, they're agreeing to pay it. My CT said that he'd been on the phone to the county office and insisted that I be paid it. They initially refused, but then agreed by all accounts.

I'm not sure what to make of it really; either what he said was true or the county office were just trying to see whether they could cream a little off the top. I think the lesson here, especially for newbies, is don't accept what they tell you, especially when it concerns you being potentially out of pocket.

Anyway, looks like I'm getting it. Thanks for the replies etc.

I would insist on seeing the next pay slip (if you don't get one) and then checking with the deposit in your bank account next payday to see if it matches what you were told. Sometimes the school just tells FT's what they want to hear and hopes they don't find out different

It's 20,000 per day not at your main school up to a max of 200,000 per month.

Ditto. At my job, it's 20,000 a day with no max. Because I only teach at my home school twice a month, I make almost 400,000 extra.

Begs the question why don't they just change your primary school then.

Cause she has seven in total.

I make the same as the OP, 100,000/month for having more than one school. It's not nearly enough, imo, but better than nothing I guess.
