Im leaning towards Bundang base on some research but would still love your advice for those who have lived in either city (living in both would be extremely helpful!).
Teaching opportunities aside, i would like to know if living in one area, say ilsan, is more convenient than the other, bundang, and vice versa. Keep in mind that i consider myself a suburban kind of guy.
Im also factoring in the quality/cost of health clubs/gyms that they offer. will be teaching children as well as teaching my muscles to grow =P |

I really enjoyed living in Ilsan. I had three major supermarkets within walking distance, La Festa down the road, lots of restaurants, parks, wide sidewalks so I could ride a bike, 40 minute express bus to shinchon. |

Depends on where in Bundang. If you mean Bundang dong, it's out of the way and a bit boring.
If you mean bundang-gu, it would depend on where you are. Seohyun is pretty good. sunae isn't bad. Same with Yatap, migum and Ori stations.
If you are a bus ride away from the subway, getting anywhere can be a bit of a time consuming chore.
Having said all that, it is FAR MORE IMPORTANT to find a good employer than a hot neighborhood. A boring neighborhood can be overcome with a bit of a bus/subway ride. A bad job is a more serious matter and harder to deal with because simply changing jobs is NOT an easy option. |

I've never been to Ilsan, but I've been in Bundang right next to Ori Station for the last 4.5 months and love it. I'm a 3 minute walk from the Tancheon river, which I could (theoretically) walk all the way to Seoul, but I've only followed it as far as Jeongja. It's cute, quaint, and quite nice to walk along in the evenings. There's an E-Mart 10 minutes away in Jukjeon and Homever 5 minutes away by the subway stop. Another 15 minutes takes you up to the hills with a lot of hiking paths and funky workout machines with a nice view over the valley. The pollution is far worse than I'd been led to believe, and I used to live in L.A., but I'm told it's much better than Seoul.
As far as ease of getting into Seoul, well, it's not as easy as I had hoped. Hongdae and that area are about 80 minutes by subway, and they close sometime after midnight. Cab rides back are about 30,000 won which isn't bad when split four ways. I wouldn't consider it 'close' to Seoul, just as I wouldn't consider Long Beach close to Downtown L.A., but then again, I love it out in Bundang and there's enough to keep me entertained and happy that I'm hoping to find another job as close to Ori as I can when my current contract is up.
Just my 2 cents.
-Cheers! |

Bundang is a great place, I have just finished a contract in Gangnam in south Seoul. I am moving back to Bundang this weekend because I liked there so much better. Ori specifically. Never been to Ilsan though. |

Ilsan is full of homos. Stay away.
(Unless you like homos, that is.) |

Is that why you were seen loitering around the public toilets here last weekend? |

Seriously tho, better nightlife, tighter expat clique and nobody goes to bed before 10pm in Ilsan. |

I'm having the same internal question. Can anyone in Ilsan vouch for the hiking/trails in the area? It seems much flatter in Ilsan. |

Bundang has some very nice areas, but Ilsan is a smaller area and is very new with a huge park called Lake Park and two shopping areas called Westerndom and Lafesta respectively. I have been living in Ilsan for almost 2 years, and I love the place. I am not interested in any other place in Korea. I would highly recommend the place. Bundang is comparable depending on what part of Bundang. To be on the safe side, I would go with Ilsan, because you could be way out there in Bundang. |

It is a nice place to live and shop, especially with the Costco that just opened at Baesoek Subway station. |

No way! That's awesome. We've been thinking of moving back to Ilsan and a nearby Costco may seal the deal! |
